Rubber for Omega Seamaster 300M

Fellow Watch crunchers. I am considering obtaining some rubber for my Seamaster 300M.

Image

Are there any crunchers out there with experience with either the OEM Omega rubber or a Zealande rubber. Obviously, there is a price difference, but I am more interested in the wearing experience / quality! Is extra cost of the OEM worth it over a Zealande? your thoughts will be most appreciated 👍

I bought mine on rubber and I love it. It’s so comfy it’s become my daily. It feels strong and is flexible enough. carries the weight of the watch well and Is well balanced.

I have the OEM rubber strap for the Planet Ocean, and the quality is amazing.

Planet Ocean 600M Co-Axial Master Chronometer 43.5 mm

The texture on it makes it almost feel like sailcloth!

At one point, I bought a $20 rubber strap off Amazon for my Aquaterra.  Did it feel cheap and greasy?  Yes.  But, that's because it was nice and cheap!  Is the Omega OEM rubber worth 10x the Amazon rubber?  To me the answer was an unequivocal yes.  But, as always, YMMV!

If you have the PO pictured, I envy you! I've watch stocked on that piece soo many times. The look of the titanium Grey / orange on strap to me is a killer combo. I hear what you're saying. OEM all the way. Thanks 👍

I ordered the OEM rubber strap with deployant clasp (not the same rubber strap you can buy the watch with), and it's awesome.  Pricey, but awesome. Can't find it on the Omega website.  Have to call a boutique (maybe some quality ADs too, not sure) and tell them you want it. I love it so much, that it will never go back on bracelet.

@WatchN Thanks Omega OEM for the win. I have tried a Seamaster on rubber in store, but we all know a couple of minutes with glass eyes isn't the same as a couple of weeks/months

Just to note, the rubber that the watch comes on has a traditional pin and buckle system.  Still very nice, but I just prefer the deployant system.  Lasts longer and I like the look/feel better.

@Jimmer thanks for the input. Yeah, trying to find the cost for the rubber is annoying. Can i ask what they charged for it pls?

The deployant clasp and the specific rubber strap that goes with it cost me $500.

I have the OG rubber strap with a deployant clasp on my AT. Love it.

500 notes! so not cheap. Some would say extortionate, but everybody so far seems to lean with the OEM.

Cracking watch mate 👍 looks like the OEM is the only acceptable choice. What's your wrist size? to do you get a good fit / adjustment etc

@Jimmer what's your wrist size? you do you wear a little loose or snugger? I only ask as with rubber i generally struggle with 'just right fit' and I'm not one to wear really loose.

In fairness, I don't know if anyone of us has actually tried the Zealande to make a direct comparison. Are they close enough in quality where you can save a few hundred bucks? Maybe. But the questions you have to ask yourself are a) how much are you going to wear the watch? and b) Do you ever intend to sell it? If the answer to those questions are "a lot" and "never", then go with the OEM rubber. You won't regret it. If the answer to the second question is "maybe" then still go with the OEM rubber as that will be more highly desired in an aftermarket purchase. If the answer to a) is "infrequently" then maybe consider the alternative.

Like @Robcollects, my AT is pretty much my everyday wear (wearing it right now as I type this) and I wear it on the OEM rubber. Such great wrist feel.

I have an 18cm  ~7.1” wrist. The watch fits my wrist well, on about the middle keeper hole, so could go up or down in wrist size. The keeper holes are about 4mm apart, so you can get close to a good fit. The scalloping on the underside of the band helps with comfort.

I've been saving for an AT and I'm really torn between the rubber and the bracelet. It's a tough call! I'll probably go rubber, however, because I am not a fan of butterfly clasps and would prefer all brushed as opposed to the polished center links. I really wish they would sell it with the SM 300 bracelet with the micro adjust.

Since my post adds nothing to the OP's question/discussion, I'll throw this out there: I've never seen a Zealande in the flesh, although they look nice in the pics. That being said, the OEM strap with the clasp is somewhat iconic. I just don't think it would look right without it. To be honest, it would look like you were trying to cheap out IMHO.

Nice! That's the same one on the Omega AT Worldtimer and the best rubber strap, IMO.

·

@MegaBob I have. I appreciate our watch youtubers like Random Rob but I always wonder if they are under some sort of obligation or back hander so thought I'd ask the collective 👍

I have a 7.25 wrist, but this one is adjustable and easy to adjust. Takes about 30 seconds from when I take it off wrist, adjust it and put it back on. No tools needed. And I wear mine snug but not tight. It doesn't slide about, but it also doesn't feel like my wrist is being strangled.

excellent thanks. i know this type of fit thing is a personnel one, but opinions of people who actually have them are golden 👍

@Jklotz Completely understand what you are saying with the Zealande strap possibly cheapening the watch but its literally 60 odd percent cheaper and minus the buckle near as dam it the same visually. Unfortunately i also have then gremlins in my head 😕

agreed. with the exception of the ultra high end horology of paying for the created by hands approach, nearly all are charging more than the manufacture cost.

Beginning to wonder in just throwing it on some Natos and piss off the purists

·

If you want cheaper Omega straps, I have a guy... 😏

·

I have no answer for your actual question, but I'll throw isofrane is as another option (albeit with a different look).

@GoingTopShelf i think ypu hit the nail on the head. Just put up another post regarding the sharp edges on my bracelets. One of the reasons why I'm looking at rubber. I am the type to pay for the premium when it's obviously better. I want to say I will never part with my seamaster.. but, If the grail came in reach !!

This is exactly what I've been trying to find, but as you said it’s not on the website. Did you have to get an extra strap or did they just order a clasp and put it on for you?

I didn't have a rubber strap on my Seamaster 300M, I bought it on bracelet.  So I ordered the OEM deployant clasp and the rubber strap that goes with it. See the holes on the picture I showed? You'll notice they're different than the holes on the rubber strap you can buy the Seamaster on.

All I did was call an Omega boutique and ask for the deployant clasp (and the blue rubber strap that goes with it) for the Seamaster 300M.

The video I linked about eight posts ago explains it pretty well.

Thanks!

Anything to help.  It's a joy to wear.  Hope you find it as nice as I do.
