36mm considered a ladies size ?

Just been checking out stock on a well known watch retailer (worldwide) and noticed that they consider an Oris big crown pointer date in 36mm a ladies size! Until I saw this representation It wouldn't of crossed my mind as Small or ladies specific.

As a bloke with average wrist size I'd happily sport a 36 or even a sports vintage 34. Am i alone I this?

Retailers' product descriptions are weird.

Agreed. It surprised me especially with that particular model.

I have 4 36mm watches, and all of them are listed as being either men's or unisex. In fact, I believe a 36mm would far too large on most woman's wrists. Funnily enough Panzera list their 38mm Aquamarine as being a ladies watch, how daft is that?

·

Not a woman's size at all. Stores sometimes use weird descriptions for products... or maybe they are trying to convince husbands to buy watches for their wives.

·

i think 31mm is the perfect ladies watch size. for 36mm usually its a men size but i think woman can use 36mm as well. so let say its a unisex size. product description are weird 😂

Like @ds760476 suggests the brand or retailers idea of male to female specific sizes seems absurd. We all like a chunky sport watch but I feel nice smaller watch is an easier wear most of the time.

Yeah could be a psychological attempt to push us towards watches they want us to buy. I can imagine the sneakiness that goes on to make men feel more manly

Not at all a ladies side. If you have slender wrists then you go for it. Even if that were not to be the case, smaller sizes were the men’s sizes…

I like the idea of have a nice range of watches in size and genre. Plus gives excuse to keep looking and buying right 👍

Size trends have gone up and down for men and women's watches over the years. 36-39mm is pretty unisex in my opinion. If you like it - go for it!

If 36mm is a ladies watch then my left wrist identifies as a ladies wrist.…all jokes aside, 36mm is perfection and comfortable on my 7.25in wrist

·

I suppose that , prior to the 70's, all men were wearing ladies watches.

·

I'd wear it!

I don't think 36mm is a woman sized watch.  I think it really all boils down to what you like and what you are comfortable with.  One of my first large purchases was a Tank Solo XL and while I was at the boutique trying it out, I really really wanted the large one or even the size below that one (since they are discontinued now, I can't remember what sizes they came in..but I think it was a small), but the salesclerk kept telling me that the smaller sizes were women's watches.  I regret that now because I've personally found that smaller watches (in my mind) fit better on my 6.75 inch wrist and I've grown to love small thin timepieces.   I just recently acquired a Cartier Panthere 27mm and although it sounds and looks really small, it is now my favorite watch.  Every time I put on my BB 36mm, I find it completely comical and really way too big for me.

@jackmani I had an experience just like that but with the Santos. I think there all cracking watches and I like the first watch history, if you believe it. I tried on the medium and the large. The medium was a better fit. I also have a 6 half to 3/4 wrist. I also tried the large on. The wife and the ad staff were telling me the large cos I'm a man 🤷‍♂️. This the missus is used to me wearing large diver watches so the medium looked odd to her. The AD woman just seeing more money out of my pocket. In the end I sat on it and currently sitting sitting on the decision

Well for some reason i don't like small watches. Got a 35mm Poljot Deluxe from the ~70-80s, and it looks hilariously small on my (small) 173mm wrist. But i do wear it from time to time as a dress watch on special occasions.

That said, i totally sold my Seiko5 37mm, because it's just too small for every day wear.

@mer1981 yes hear what your saying. Think it does depend on the watch in question for sure

Don’t let retailers tell you who should wear the watch, wear whatever feels right to you.

completely. best approach

·

agreed actually considering one for daily office wear

·

Watch companies seem to have no clue when it comes to gendering watches. I don’t know why they would even narrow their audience like that, anyway. 36mm is my favorite size for classic three-handers. I did also want to say, the 36mm Pointer Date wears small for a 36. I definitely liked mine when I had it!

·

36mm isn't a ladies watch size, at least for my gf... she definitely needs a watch at 34mm or less

·

I think a 36 mm is ideal as a more dress / office style watch. Only thr divers of the world need to be 40 plus I think

·

Over the last 10-15 years oversized watches have become popular among new enthusiasts. Yet, 36mm is considered a medium-large size for men, so it's a perfect size for a field watch, and maybe just a tad small for a diver or a tad large for a dress watch, if we consider classic elegance.
Short answer: 36 is great for men. Besides, the diameter is not the sole indicator of how the watch wears. Lug-to-lug distance, thickness, lug shape, case shape, etc. all contribute to it.
