Never meet your hero .... or just not ready for them?

Since joining WC community I expressed my strange "relationship" with Speedy. From my personal preferences and all the hype and history of this watch it was like made for me and loved it on the paper - my "grail" chrono. And still after 4-5 visits to AD's around the world after new 3861 being released it didn't do the trick, it left me feeling bland and simple.

I also wrote about my trip to Japan and asking you where to buy watches there ( if somebody wants to know IMO Nakano Broadway is the best place ). The day has come and I had a list of watches, looking for a chrono to add into my collection.

My choice was narrowed down to these 3:

- Zenith Heritage Pilot Revival Chronometro TIPO CP-2

- Breguet Aeronaval Type XX 3800ST

- Speedmaster '57 Co‑Axial Master Chronograph 40.5mm

Got all 3 on the tray and off to another room to try them on. Soon the Speedy 57 left the party, faux patina sandwich dial was too much for me aldough considered that as frontrunner. And at that moment I asked the nice lady if she can bring Speedy Pro Hesalite - again me hoping it will be different this time. And it was! When in line with Zenith and Breguet it seemd different, as the bland and simple design transformed into meaningfull "less is more" story. Bracelet sized for my wrist and yes, it is huge upgrade compared to previois or any Omega SS bracelet for that matter.

Long story short, I am now a happy owner of Omega Speedmaster Hesalite and been enjoying it for 3 weeks now. The watch is now as I imagined from beginning, just wasn't ready or the context/timing was not right, who knows.

And last but not least, I also bought Casio G-Shock DW-H5600EX-1 for me ( love both skins ) and GMA2100BA for my wife to match my GA2100 ( currently used as favourite chewing toy by my 7mo daughter 🤣 ).

Has anybody else experienced this kind of shift in collecting journey? What were the circumstances that made the shift? Please do share

Like you I had to visit the ADs several times before things came together. Like yours, my choise was the Hesalite version. Enjoy!

Thank you, glad to finally have it and meeting my expectations

Gorgeous, congratulations 🎉

Yes, my 2014 Seamaster 300 heritage. I chose it because I wanted understated & subtle. When I got it I was initially underwhelmed. Took a few days for it's inherent quality to soak in (it was my first posh watch) & for me to fall in love with it.

That was a few years ago, now it's a firm favourite & will stay until my last breath. I Love it 😁👍🏻👍🏻

No, JackRoad at Nakano Broadway. Really big selection of new and used, great pricing and professional attitude. All in all wonderfull experience, could also see some unobtanable watches ( ALS, Journe ... ), they show you anything without snobbery

Congrats! Enjoy that beautiful watch!

The Speedmaster should be appreciated for its infinite legibility. It’s quite ridiculous, all of the functionality, distilled down to its most basic form.

Congradulations, looks good on your wrist.

I’m literally going through this right now! Once that new Speedy 3861 came out I had a plan sell my 2 chronographs and get this new model as it seemed promising to me.

I did follow through with the sales but still I don’t know what’s holding me back. Maybe the same reason of previous models no screw down crown and only 50m WR.

Have a look at what I own for 17 years, you can see the speedy seems like the natural progression.

If only Omega would make the aforementioned changes I think it would be a no brainer for most people to easily buy it!

Oh the agony!

Might just have to do it and then fall in love later🥲😂

Thanks for sharing your story. I am a big fan of Speedy Triple date and was long time on my list. As they went above 2,5k for decent one I had to throw in the towel. Also not a big fan of 50m WR but we can't have it all. Hope you will decide for one soon

Yup, fully agree here

I thought I wanted the GMT lefty but after trying it on I couldn't get used to the date on the wrong side of the dial. Looks like I'll have to wait until grey market prices drop a lot on the regular GMT
