If you had to sleep with it...

So, there are times when one of my kids, as babies, are sick.

In those instances, I use a watch while sleeping near them when a phone is too bright to check with a sleeping, sick kid.

When that happens, I always reach for my hamilton khaki. It is super thin, with a supple nato that I cut into a single pass.

If you needed to, for some reason, sleep with a watch on, which one would you choose?

I sleep with my Apple Watch to track my sleep and it lights up great - I can use theater mode to use the crown to light it up just enough to read in the dark... and it's super comfortable.

When my kids were little (20+ years ago), my Victorinox was comfy and had barely-enough lume for kid duty:

Love the Swiss Army watch

Thanks - This one is very "2000's" with the anodized aluminum case and integrated rubber strap.

I always sleep with my watch on, it's easier to check a watch than check my phone.

I normally just wear whatever watch I had on all day, but if I'm somewhere particularly dark, or I'm really tired I wear one of my Marathon watches with tritium lume.

Exact same reason I wear one of my Ball watches! Tritium for the win💪🏼😎

Times weekender lume ftw

But that ticking though 😮

Times weekender lume ftw

But that ticking though 😮

No sleeping but the Indiglo let’s you know what time it is 😂

·

I have a titanium citizen promaster land that is perfect for falling asleep with. Super light, and the titanium dissipates heat at such a rate that it pretty much matches my body temperature

I mean the ticking is soothing to me 🤷🏾‍♂️

Not for me - I needed to keep my Timex on the other side of the bedroom in order to get any sleep.

I sleep with a watch on almost every night. Usually an Oris TT3 or a Seiko monster.

·

I sleep every night with a watch on - often a Hamilton Mechanical Field. I love tritium lume dials best as they are awesome to see in the middle of the night

The Indiglo is what saves it...and it looks pretty great.

It's like a mini white noise machine.

Lume is good, but a sleep tracking app on an Apple Watch lets me know how many times my prostate made me get out of bed… and gives me the time (and outside temp, breaking news etc.) at the touch of a button… just saying … (I appreciate the tool aspects of the Apple Watch… for me and my health, it’s the right “watch” to wear overnight - my mechanical/automatic watches can handle the daytime hours).

i like your Hamilton ! Great dial

My Seiko5 EVERY NIGHT

My sleep watch. I cant sleep without something my wrist.

I sleep with whatever watch I happen to be wearing, there is only one watch in my collection I would take off.

·

I sleep with whatever 2 watches ⌚ I'm wearing

·

Usually with this guy

Rubber G-shock imo; not super thin but will poke and hurt less when rolling around/resting your head on your hands etc. Just make sure to turn off any alarms you've set😂

·

I would wear casio f-105… super light, soft, good lighting, and unobtrusive enough that I dont worry it poke or snag on anything when i craddle my baby.

·

I haven't slept without a watch on since the early 1980's, except for hospital and prison 😜

The idea of taking off a watch to sleep is really, really bizarre to me 🤯

Top 3 sleeping watches for me

  1. Fancy g shock Square, it's also my wake up alarm.

  2. Casio f91, light is fine in complete dark

  3. Timex Ironman, super loud and obnoxiousl alarm. Usually wear this one to be if I'm getting up at an odd hour.

Of course I have a back up alarm on my phone because I will sleep through any watch alarm if I'm really down for the count. I tend to sleep with a watch on almost every day.

·

I wear my ProTek. Has tritium indices and hands. Really bright and legible without being to obnoxious to wake anyone.

I often sleep with a G Shock square on, or occasionally whatever watch I was wearing that day. I'm a frequent "hand under pillow" side sleeper, so I end up taking watches off pretty often to not feel like I'm pushing my watch case into the large vein that runs under it.

Every time I see one of the steel navigators, I want to buy one. I have the composite case navigator, and the only thing that bothers me is the 6atm water resistance. Realistically, I don't intend to ever submerge it, and 6atm should be fine for rinsing it off after it gets dirty, but it makes me uneasy. I almost never wear it over my GSAR, but I do personally like the design and brand over pretty much all the other companies making slim watches with tritium that I've seen like ball and bertucci. Bertucci has a 40mm, tritium using, solar and titanium model for like half the price of the steel nav, but it doesn't speak to me at all like the nav does.

I'm just not sure I can justify buying the steel when I already have the composite. Maybe I just decide not to baby the nav I have whatsoever, and if I ever break it, I buy the steel?

That's kind of how I view the lack of mud resistance on my g shock rangeman. If I don't baby it and eventually ruin it with mud or sand, then I buy a mudmaster as a replacement.

I have the composite, steel, and a GSAR... I have a Marathon Problem 😂

If I was doing it all over again, I would just have the steel Nav. It ticks the same hard use boxes as the GSAR, but does it in a thinner case.

GSAR is my favorite, and I do normally prefer to wear a mechanical watch. I don't think the steel nav could dethrone it, but I also have a marathon problem. For me, the nav was an exploration into marathon and tritium, both of which I really came to appreciate. These days, though, it's fallen into a pretty narrow and competitive niche. There aren't that many days where I don't feel safe wearing a mechanical watch, and on those rare days, I adore my gshocks and usually want to wear them. The composite shell and moderate water resistance sort of take the edge off of the "beat it up" factor, but the steel nav would stand toe to toe with the gshocks a lot better.

I think it's tough for me because I would prefer the steel nav over my nav hands down, but it's an admittedly expensive proposition when I already have the old nav. I don't think it's a terribly price competitive watch unless you have a real thing for the design like I think we both do. Swallowing that price all over again when I have one already is even harder. I'm firmly on the fence at the moment, but I also know they're on sale right now. Maybe I'll try to sneak part of the cost out of my family for Christmas or something.
