Fixing Dad’s watch - before and after

When my Dad passed away in January I inherited three of his watches. The other two worked well - but this one was.. well.. in a bit of a state! Busted half-missing bracelet, dial spinning round and around, scratched up crystal…

But look at it now! I cleaned it up and imported a new bracelet. A hunt high and low found a watch repairer who would deal with the unusual movement (magic lever for the watch winding, crown winding for the alarm.) He fixed the internals and fitted a new crystal and gaskets.

Of course this has all cost me more than buying a functioning vintage Bell-matic - but that is not the point! It’s priceless..

Looks stunning 😍 This is on my wishlist, and they're not that expensive, but yours has both the family history and the challenge to get it fixed, can't beat that!

Oh and I just a serial number check - October 1973- so 50 years old and good as new..

·

Amazing transformation. Congratulations!

·

Well done! the memories it will bring back are worth more than the repair bill

·

A no-brainer to get it back in shape! Well done!

·

The bellmatic is surprisingly complicated, no fuctioning new one can give you what your dad's can. Totally worth the effort.

·

Those Bellmatics are stunning--just perfectly proportioned and executed. I love that you were able to get it back to such a beautiful state and that it will always hold a place in your heart.

·

I also recently restored my Bell-Matic to working order. Congratulations! It's a brilliant watch. Instant conversation starter when the alarm goes off.

Good Lord. Cinderella before and after. That's fantastic.
