Bargain IWC Mk 11

Hey - does anyone know much about the IWC Mk 11?

As a fan of British Military field watches and IWC I’ve admired it for a while.

I picked this one up on eBay today for an absolute STEAL. I have to get it working - but once I have it’s a beast of a thing.

Apparently it’s an original radium dial - pretty rare as these were swapped out when watches were serviced for circle T tritium dials.

So this post is just to connect with any Mark 11 lovers or owners or experts. What do you think?

ah yes thanks - I did also come upon the same. Kind of IWC to do that!

The printing looks awfully white and crisp given the age, I wonder if someone refinished the non-radium parts of the dial at some point.

·

Beautiful watch, but radium on the dial would make it a no-go for me. We get enough radiation on a daily basis as is. No need to willfully add to the daily background dose.

·

It’s a part of the Dirty dozen military watch👍

How much of a steal are we talking!? These are very popular watches to frankenwatch. Cal89s can be picked up for £300, new dial for £100… and that dial looks really nice even for an expensive example. The lume usually looks way more uneven:

This one’s going for £7.5k

Congratulations, I don’t know this watch but I do have a few dirty dozen watches. The dial looks fantastic, I can’t see why it wouldn’t be original. It’s clearly seem some action which gives it even more character. Can’t wait to see it fixed 😀

Not quite.. it’s the next one along. The dirty dozen didn’t have centre seconds..

It had an extensive history - the caseback markings are of the military type and the movement has the broad arrow mark.

Could you share where this is for sale?

Very nice buy. In wonderland original condition.

The movement seems to have some slight minor rust but nothing to be worried about. Definitely have a trusted watchmaker give it a service. I'm sure it will run very well after.

Yeah I’ll tell them to do the most minimally invasive service possible - hopefully a clean up can get it going..

It's a cool watch but I hope you have a place that wants to touch it. Servicing these can be non trivial because not every place is willing/able to work on watches with radium dials. Good luck 💪💀

I was wondering about that. I’ ve got three places I’ve used so hopefully one comes up trumps.

Ah I see it now! It can be a hard one to search cos of variants of spelling

Mark 11, Mk 11, Mark XI, Mk XI etc!

Apparently Mk 11 is the correct way!

And sorry if I came across negative - it is a super cool watch - I would love one. Congrats!

Not at all - it’s right to question in this murky area! But at least it appears to have all the right military parts… I’ve found a specialist repair person so that will be a good way to either build confidence in it or discover any issues such as wrong parts.
