Breathing some life into a beautiful little vintage Timex

I recently purchased this little mechanical Timex made in my home country of Great Britain back in 1973 (many years before I was born, ha). I could tell from the sellers pictures that it was actually in extremely good condition but needed a new strap and some good old Polywatch! It arrived and was tested for functionality - the movement winds up beautifully and feels spot on, the date function works as it should and it was running within +2 minutes per day after a full wind.

I regulated the movement and managed to get it running at around +1 to +2 seconds at full wind, and within about + to - 20 seconds over a 24-hour period as it winds down. In all likelihood it needs a service because I'm sure it won't have seen one for several decades.

After a new strap, a gentle clean and some Polywatch it's looking absolutely beautiful...that comes acrylic crystal 😍😍 so much character! I like to buy these every so often, breath some life into them then sell them on for someone to else to enjoy.

Timex sprite I had one in the mid 70’s it was my first watch. This isn’t that one. I lost it in the woods a few years after. Was amazed by the lume when I was a kid and used to go to find dark places to see it glow still doing that 50 years later 😂

Thank you for sharing that 😀👍

I wonder if anyone found it in the woods!

Yes!!! I did the same thing with a tasty little 1979 Timex! Don't you love breathing new life into these classics? ❤ So satisfying...

I think it looks great, definitely has character

Very nice! Six to eight years ago you could get these vintage guys for a song but alas like everything else they have gone up. Great job though. I have a collection of vintage Timex watches ranging from 1956 up to 1979. There are so many variations to chose from.

Wow, you definitely breathed life into this beauty.

Excellent work, mate, it looks like a brand new now

Amazing #timex 🤩 that curve glass is crazy

Great job in giving it a new lease of life. The strap is a fantastic choice. I've been eying up the Sprites for a while now and you might just have inspired me to pull the trigger.

Thank you 🙏 I hope you end up adding one to the collection 😀 I've recently acquired a few more to refurbish.
