Any oris guys or girls out there?

I know the brand has a long history but I don’t know too much about them to be honest. I absolutely love these pointer dates and have been looking for that one with the grayish blue dial.

Anyone have experience with oris? How they run, any problems they might have, likes/dislikes, random facts about the brand literally anything. Thanks in advance 😁

I’ve seen a number of these on eBay, and thought they look great. The only thing that’s kept me from grabbing one is I’ve heard they are often sketchy on originality. I don’t know how likely getting a Frankenwatch is, but it’s something I’ve heard. As long as it looks good and works well, maybe that doesn’t matter anyway.

And watch out for anything from India. These watches often have repainted dials or have been altered in some way. If the price seems too good to be true it probably is.

I do own an Oris BCPD bronze and I think it’s a great watch. I think they offer good value, and there are several other watches I would consider from them.

I have several Oris watches and absolutely love them. The brand is completely independent with rich history from early 1900s. The watches are terrific in design, quality and value. To @thekris’s point, careful with Frankenwatches from India - I’ve also have heard horror stories regarding heavily modded watches from there. Happy hunting! 🤙❤️

Mine is from 2008. I bought it from the original owner. I got it serviced and put a new strap on it. Works wonderfully and keeps time well!

I have had two. Both with a Sellita movement. Feels very well made.

I love Oris. Sadly I am only familiar with their newer offerings. I have not ventured into the vintage models for fear of scoring a “less then original” variation (as mentioned above). The more recent models are absolutely fantastic. Their new in-house calibre 400 Aquis is a stellar watch.

I have two. They're both rather splendid

I use one Oris big crown pointer date bronze case. A very nice looking watch with 28,800 vph movement and great lumes and the bronze case is getting a good patina. Not sure about eBay ones but mine is bought from an authorised dealer.

I have one from the 1950s. It's not a pointer date, but has all of the same DNA, including the lovely oversized crown. Vintage Oris is definitely a minefield with Frankenwatches and redials all over the place. I often wonder if mine is a redial, but I hope that the seller (an old and experienced watchmaker) wouldn't do such a thing. The movement doesn't run the best, but I'm not going to tinker with it because parts are about as easy to come by as chicken teeth. I like the smaller diameter (mine comes in at 31,5mm, but I'm sure that the Pointer Dates are a little larger) and it is one of my favourite occasional wear pieces. It's a great tie-up between field and dress watch.

Just beware that many vintage movements are pin-pallets. They are a probably the best pin-pallets out there, but at their core, they will never be as accurate or reliable as Swiss-lever movements. That doesn't stop me from loving them though!

I've wanted to add an Oris to my collection, the pointer date as well. I haven't tried them on and Tourneau where I'm near used to carry an assortment, now that have nothing.

They even got rid of Nomos.

·

I do like an Oris. I'm sure there's one in my future.

·

I'm a huge Oris fanboy. I don't think anyone on this site has commented or blushed about Oris more than I. I also live 5 minutes from the USA service center and have really come to love the people who work there. I do think they are widely underrated within the watch community.

I love my Aquis 41.5 mm. I think the finishing is excellent and the bracelet is very comfortable due to the lug design. In my opinion it definitely punches above it's price point.

I have spoken at length about this: pin-pallets - just avoid.

Modern Oris is great.

Vintage Oris is just a bag of wasps.

Oris grew on me last year after repairing a 32mm Big Crown Pointer Date.

Classic style and so far I like that they're listening to their customers and having fun collabs like releasing an official Kermit model.

I own 2 red rotor Oris.

Both are exceptional.

But Vintage Oris is a minefield. There's a tiny piece of me that wants to tell you if the price is right to take the gamble. But a friend once told me if I gave him my money he would kick me in the jewels. It's roughly the same end result as gambling.

I'm a fan of the vintage Oris aesthetics and have considered them myself. But sadly, I would advise you to avoid them for all the reasons other commenters have already mentioned.

I've got a BCPP Worldtimer, big fan of the brand, this one won't likely be my last. Eyes on a pointer date sometime in the future.

I have two and they are both magnificent watches.

I got the 36mm Big Crown pointer date with bronze case this year and I love it! I am really enjoying seeing it patina. The leather strap it comes with is a tad too stiff for me though and it takes longer to break in. I usually like a softer leather, but that's just personal preference.

I picked this one up about two weeks ago. It’s gorgeous. Runs about 5 seconds slow per day when not wearing it and about 1 to 2 seconds slow per day on wrist.

Fun fact! The pointer date runs on a modified 2824-2, with the date wheel replaced with a blank brass ring on it that has a notch, which then has a turning plate that rotates by engaging with that notch, finally with the pointer date hand sitting on an extension of that plate, just like any other hand. Basically, they just added 2 net parts, no extra, gears or springs, and you've got yourself a pointer date!
