Arabics vs. Roman numerals

I am not a roman numeral guy. I grew up with clocks in our house with roman numerals. I am not sure if getting my first LCD watch just made me prefer Arabics but that is my preference. I'll take indices over roman numerals too. What is your preference?

Utterly indifferent.

For me, it really depends on the style of the watch. Indices are great on a diver, Arabics on a daily driver, and maybe Romans on a dress watch. I don’t know… It just kind of depends on how it looks on the watch, I guess. I wouldn’t rule out any specific style(s).🥂

I think I still would prefer thin batons on a dress watch but I get you. There is one homage watch that I won't name because I don't know what the original watch is called and has Romans. I wouldn't mind adding it to my collection.

Oh definitely! I do not understand why they would mix arabics and romans on the same dial.

·

Roman on dress watches exclusively

California dial, baby. @TommyGunn

I like both. Hamilton Murph with all 12 numerals in Arabic and my Omega AT with indices are both excellent.

So no Romans?

I had to look it up too. It looks like "California dial" is a misnomer originally referring to a fake dial though. My source: https://www.fratellowatches.com/origins-california-dial-half-arabic-roman/#gref

·

I prefer a clean no nonsense dial, but I love them all.

·

Prefer hour markers/indices, but if you must use numbers then Arabic, a’la the Explorer 1 or Ranger.

·

Arabic - with casual wear, roman - with formal/dressy, clean indices as an all-weather choice ✔

·

Roman numerals add such elegance to a dress watch...

As @Obwanusa pointed out above, it depends on the watch style. 💯

No, not really a fan of the roman numerals. If I had the choice between all three styles in a watch I would shy away from the roman numbers. Of course this is all just personal preference and one is not better than the other, you get use to any style, making them all easy too read.

·

California dials only!

My serious answer is it depends on the style of the watch.

·

It all depends on the watch and it’s design. I have all three styles.
