To wannabe or not to wannabe?

They said that Tudor watches are Rolex wannabes. I don't think so. I own both Rolex and Tudor, and the latter is truly stunning.

Tudor watches aren't wannabe Rolex's.

Tudor owners CAN be wannabe Rolex owners though; which is where the 'wannabe' comes from, I reckon.

The watches can't be wanna be's because their origin was not from a person that wanted to make wannabe Rolex's, but from the actual owner & founder of Rolex making watches slightly less expensive than the main offering to capture more of the market.

They were never intended to be a competitor to Rolex.

Maybe once upon a time, but certainly not now. Tudor very much as it's own identity as a brand. Which, I'd argue, really began with the the Marine Nationale Snowflake diver in the 70s, and has been a steady progression ever since.

I see Tudor and Rolex as brother brands at this point. Tudor is the daring younger brother who is the daredevil of the family, willing to take risks and try new things. Whereas Rolex is the older, conservative, accountant-type, who watches little brother do things first, and gets overly excited when he slightly changes the shade of blue on a "new" release...

Wannabe Rolex or poor man’s Rolex etc.

Tudor was designed to offer a more affordable alternative to Rolex so I guess there’s a bit of truth in it.

But nowadays they have their own following and many Tudor owners/admirers couldn’t care less for Rolex either. So I don’t think it matters anymore.

I don't think Tudor is a Rolex wannabe.

I doubt whether Rolex will ever be as avant-garde as Tudor in terms of trying out new features. But as @UnholiestJedi very rightly pointed out, the two brands are not meant to compete with each other anyway.

That’s a great shot of the GMT 👌 . I think modern Tudors have their own identity and following and unlike Rolex are more adventurous with their releases.

·

I think at one time Rolex was the star sibling but not after some bad acting and dull recent releases. Kind of like these siblings = She was the hot star and he was the hanger on brother. Now, nobody really talks about her anymore . Her Bro is the big star

Yes, I do think they're "poor man's Rolex" or "wannabes" as that's what Wilsdorf intended.

Bit I don't think there's anything wrong with that at all.

Great shot of the GMT! 🔥

·

I think all Pepsi GMTs are wannabes - by design and colorway. That said, of that group, that Tudor is definitely good looking.

·

Looks great 👍

I love my Tudor BlackBay heritage, I bought it because I love it…. I didn’t buy a sub because I didn’t love it. Tudor felt more of a watch to me than the Vintage (20+ yr old) sub that I tried at the same time. So if it is the poor man’s Rolex, I am happy to be the poor man.

·

Think the times where Tudor was a „Poor man‘s Rolex“ are over. Tudor slowly implemented their own DNA. Great watch on its own for sure 👌🏼

·

I actually prefer the design language of Tudor. I think they have well established their own branding and positioning and I’m a big fan of what they do. I also love the value proposition that Tudor offer!

I cannot wait for 2024 releases by Tudor! 🤤
