How do you prefer brands launch new models

Do you prefer the annual release cycle followed for the most part by the biggest brand or the random cycle most micro-brands seem to follow?

As the Rock used to say, "IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT THE BRAND IS!"

Surprise me. The problem with scheduled releases is that it sets anticipation and has a burden of delivering something new whether it's warranted or not (ahem, content, ahem).

So despite all the hooplah, everything is better when product development is allowed time and is not just a scheduled task.

Does not the annual cycle allow for built in innovation and time to recover those costs? I personally prefer the release as you develop but at the same time the annual cycle allows for planning.

I really want them to update watches I don't own but not the ones I've already bought. 🤔

That could be tricky.

That could be tricky.

Plus I want the update to be in 36mm to 38mm. Rolex are ignoring my emails 🤔

I honestly don't care about annual release because I usually don't follow too much big brands calendar.

I like the idea that with random release, the product releases when it is ready, not because we are the third week of february.

What I don't like is when brands starts to tease several months before the actual release and absolutely no useful information or design clue can be seen. It kills all my interest in few days. I won't ever buy a watch from two shadowed preview with a pre-order link. But that's just me.

Rolex says you will take what we offer you and you will like it!

That being said, bring back the Milgauss.

I’d hate to buy a watch and a week later they release a new and/or improved version.

·

Just release them when they are ready and have them available for shipment before December, when all my excuses for gifts (wedding anniversary, birthday, Christmas) are due.

Well yes but true innovation is not really a purchasable commodity. If the inspiration doesn't hit, they're stuck releasing a nothingburger to underwhelm everyone.

With random releases, you know it will be worthwhile whenever it comes. With scheduled, you merely know that it will come on time. The quality of the release is a total tossup.

That would suck for sure. Though sometime the older version ends up being the preferred version.

I agree the delay between "release" and availability can be frustrating.

Fair point.

·

I say release watches as long as they are ready to sell them that day.

I am OK if you announce a pre-order w/ a discount and of course a down-payment on a custom watch is OK.

·

No announcement just put it online and let people find it

·

Random releases are fine. I believe when the watch is ready for release, launch it.

Enjoying that Blacktip Kevin? It's a stunner that Adventurine dial.

Enjoy that bad boy!

Cheers

·

John, It has not arrived yet... it was a pre-order.

·

Just give it to me

B and C look like the same answer and that’s where I went. I like having releases sprinkled throughout the year. I like being able to see and think about a new release rather than wade through 100 new releases on the same day.

C was meant to be more along the lines of "whatever the manufacture picks is find with me/I do not care as long as you release new watches". I worded it poorly maybe.
