Sleek looking and wearable Panerai - but not very ‘military’; thoughts?

Came across this Luminor Luna Rossa Quaranta (PAM01408) online. I think it looks great and at 40mm more wearable for my medium sized wrist than their regular 44mm offerings. I also like the black steel DLC (‘Diamond Like Carbon’ (?) case and the sunburst dial. What do you think of these new-style Luminors, and Panerai veering away from their military navy heritage towards more of a commercial nautical theme (to wit, the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli sailing team)?

Don’t know… I prefer the traditional beefier Panerais.

I think it's a stunner.

Yeah, I get that… bit like BMW putting three cylinder engines in their 3-series - makes commercial (and environmental) sense, but not really true to heritage or expectations…

There IS that 😎

I think the more Panerai can do to diversify its line-up but maintain its signature case design the better. The Due line, for example, is very appealing at 38mm.

·

40mm? It's a beauty.

Its lovely 😍

Was looking at this yesterday in a shop window in my local city, my first thougts were how much I prefered this to the bigger more military looking ones. I’m not a big Panerai fan, never really got it, but this smaller version with sunburst dial looks like something I could/would be happy to wear………. Then I saw the price, gulp !

Yeah, that’s another Panerai tradition: people going ‘gulp’ on hearing the price :)

Looks fantastic!

·

Recently tried on multiple sizes of Panerai and on the wrist though big, only the 44mm Panerais felt like I’m wearing a Panerai. 40mm ones just felt like a make belief Panerai

·

Still a lot of traditional panerI dna in this just with a twist. If you like it get it

·

Really like it. Not a huge Panerai fan and therefore have no ‘purist’ views but this is a nice modern twist on the classic design at a much more accommodating size

·

The design and colors look military to me. Here is a picture of St Cyr French military academy:

That’s a stunner, all Panerai’s are. I think a small watch is step in the right direction for Panerai if they’re trying to capture a wider audience.

·

If I won the lottery today, I would go out and get one :) I love the look of it. Unfortunately, I don't have the cash for it, I am pretty sure.

·

Absolute stunner!

Take it from me, no one in the military wears Panerai. Not with their prices. We all wear G-Shock, Casio, Timex or smart "watches."

·

I do not know many people in the military that can afford that Panerai, that may be it's roots, but it is no longer that brand. I think it is a cool looking watch, albeit far too large for me.

·

Well, the majority seems to feel that: the move to a smaller size is a smart one / Panerai still knows how to design a stunner of a watch / nobody here is prepared to pay 10k for it :)

For me personally, this is also way too much for this watch. Perhaps in a few years’ time, as second hand or lucky buy in an auction…

As a rule Panerai don't exist in my head, their designs & size are just a turn off for me. Rapidly scrolling down the page I did an emergency stop after scrolling past your post. Whoa what's that watch? I have to say this Panerai is a fantastic looking watch, it really appeals to my taste. It just looks so damn smart, tight, stylish, not in the typical brash Italian tradition. A really cool watch.

My feelings exactly. Panerai was always a brand ‘for other people’. This quaranta in its black steel casing however….very nice indeed. Not at this price though…

·

Love it, I think it looks fantastic

Panerai watches have a cool look...it's just they have done so many sketchy things recently.

And to top it off, now they are making "dive" watches with the locking crown that only have 30M WR...what the hell is that? Why a locking crown for only 30M WR? That makes no sense.

Anyone else think this is weird?
