For me it's dress watches.
They just don't do anything for me.
Granted I don't " dress up " or go formal at all.
But if I had to I would still go for something like this
Yes I know it's as dressy as work boots to a wedding. But hey maybe it's just me.๐
If you like them that's great, but just not for me.
I appreciate them, don't get me wrong I'm not dress watch bagging, just my opinion.
So crunchers, what style of watch do you just don't like or just can't get into ???
Have a good one ๐๐๐

Nice.
I have nothing against them. We all like what we like I just look at them and nope. Just not for me.
I'm a huge Omega fan. I like older Seamsters, Seamaster Aqua Terras, Speedmasters, Constellations and DeVille's. But I just do not like Omega Seamaster with helium escape valve. That escape valve makes me want to put it back on the shelf. And I cannot explain why. Just not for me.

I hear that.
I mean it's iconic with helium escape valve, but just doesn't look right to me anyway ๐

they are not my thing either, I am always sporty and even so I have worn a sports watch on my wrist for a wedding, and for the office I wore a suit and my sports watches
Divers, field watches, sports watches, and chronographs.
Divers, field watches, sports watches, and chronographs.
Blasphemy ๐.
Each to their own ๐๐
Field and Flieger. I could explain but I've already lost interest.
Digital doesn't do it for me, I specifically bought an analogue-digital dual time as my beater as I know I won't be concerned if it gets trashed.
Divers that are more expensive than a basic watch. It's a tool, no point in spending more than just enough. The big-showy-bezel thing just isn't me.

I know, I know. Iโm a weirdo. Exactly. I tend to gravitate towards unique, vintage, and dress.

I'm a bit the same about field watches and in particularly fliegers.
But whatever floats your boat ๐

That's what makes watches great.
Something for everyone ๐
Dress watches are not for me either. There is rarely a situation where a sports or an universal type of watch dressed up on a nice leather strap would not be sufficiently elegant. Therefore I don't see much use for a standalone dress watch. And often their design is very similar and conservative with not many interesting things going for them.
I also -up until very recently- did not see anything interesting on divers. But that's slowly changing now. For example Longines Legend Diver has something interesting going for it.
Also, I've seen the new Seiko Marinemaster and that thing has a certain wow effect going on.

I'm not me to dress up as my watch to match. With the huge amount of divers out there it's easy to get a " restrained ' diver and have it look " dressier " and like you say, changing straps can help ๐
I like most styles of watches, but cannot get the digital Casio thing.

Fair enough. I had 8 Casio and g shock digital watches but sold 7 of them and just own
Dress watches and dare I say chronographs? I respect what goes into them but just canโt get into them.
Question for the group: whatโs a dress watch to you?
Probably worthy of a poll, though only four options won't be enough!
I stick near to classic definition - small, precious metal, two hander, no complications, leather strap. I relax it to allow a second hand (or subdial second hand), occasionally a date, and steel can be ok. Bracelets and divers are definitely out, no matter what James Bond wears. (You, dear reader, aren't James Bond!) Actual value of the watch isn't relevant.
Does this change your mind about fliegers? ๐
Standard flieger, I could use it at night instead of counting sheep, I might reach the bottom but I'm unlikely to climb the left side. ๐
How can you not like this!?
I just don't ๐.

Iโm pretty much in agreement though the right three hander (no complications) in precious metal on a strap can qualify in my book.
My views on what constitutes a dress watch have changed significantly since joining the Crunch. I donโt own a dress watch yet; my three handers may look the part to some but arenโt.
Watches without seconds hands....
Watches without seconds hands....
Agree. Just doesn't look right
The Cartier Santos and similar style watches. There- I said it
I know, really beautiful design objectively, but Iโm not a field watch lover, nor a cathedral hands lover at that. But I do like the combination of the big functional grooved numerals with the elegant day date complication in the Cooper watch better.
The cathedral hand is where it gets me too... I can't get past it. Same thing for the Alpinist. Barrier to entry.
Chronographs. Just not my thing... Too busy looking for me.
What a great thread! Theres probably a few for me, but the big one is cushion cases (or whatever cases are used in every Panerai, PP Nautilus, Piaget Polo, etc).
I used to dislike dress watches too, but they somehow grew on me, now I have 4 of them (2 of them are hand-me-downs, though)
I can't stand round watches where the main time display is an off-centre "subdial" (looking at you, CW Bel Canto, Armin Stroms and complicated Glashรผtte Originals). I admire them for the high horology pieces they are, but I could never wear them.
I dislike anything I cannot afford ! So that includes the majority of watches. I look at it, get jealous then decide to dislike it, when secretly I love it but usually skint ! ๐
Tourbillons. No thank you! I want a nice dial please
