New watch for New Beginnings

I’m leaving my company of 15 years this week.  It’s a bit bittersweet but I’ve decided to commemorate my new job with a new watch.  Looking from something easy to wear, relatively versatile and with a little bit of interest.  Boiled it down to a Bulova Lunar Pilot (strap, no date), Citizen Garrison Titanium.

I know they are way different and I’m open to other ideas as well, looking to be sub $500.

Also thought about Khaki Field, or King Khaki.

Thoughts?

Though Citizen Ecodrive will be packed with quality and reliability, I would pick Bulova for chronograph function with style to celebrate my new journey.

It is a starting point with unique style 😁😁

·

The Hammy khaki sounds perfect👌 has a bit more class. Not that the other 2 don't but yeah, the Hamilton. Unless of course it's the 43mm luner then I'd......O shit!!

·

All the best for your next adventure 😉

If you’re open to new ideas then have a look at Roue, it’s a great offering well under 500$.

I have a TPS Two and love it. They use good movements, the case finishing is awesome and the printing is crisp and extremely detailed on the dials.

To me the brand always felt like a labor of love and the level of detail on the product, the packaging and the design are very well thought out. Their website has the best graphic design I have seen on any watch website, full stop.

The SSD is gorgeous to me.

The TPS line up has plenty of variety on colors, the One looks awesome.

There’s more in the collection so it’s worth to explore, on your budget you can even pick up two, one for work and another for fun. Enjoy!

What’s your profession or new job?  I find it helpful to tie in any function that is meaning to some purpose

·

Of the two watches you noted, I think the Citizen is a bit more versatile in that it comes on a bracelet and not as large as the Bulova. Good luck on your selection and the new job!

·

The Citizen in Titanium Eco Drive is awesome.  Someone in this thread mentioned a Hamilton Automatic movement in stainless steel.  That's another great choice in this price range

Technical sales for an equipment manufacture.  Mainly office work, some travel, but unlikely international travel so don’t need a GMT.

I dang near forgot about the Hamilton, I’m drawn toward the Khaki King for some reason, didn’t realize the power reserve was up to 80 hrs.

If you sell to industries that deal with chemicals, consider stainless steel and a screw down crown. If it’s electronic and has magnets, look for something anti-magnetic.

OTOH, a good field watch with a touch of pizzazz (Hamilton Khaki Field or King) makes a lot of sense as they have a bit of dressiness to them but are tough and accurate.

I’ll be selling equipment in the chemical space but relatively clean and office based, if I end up in the field working I’ll be wearing a Fossil beater.  I’m leaning towards the Khaki King.

·

Congrats on the new endeavor!

All three are solid and will serve you well. No wrong answers here.

·

Congratulations! I vote for Hamilton but it depends on what you like and what you already have!

(wearing my Khaki King as I type....)

You know there's only one answer; buy them all....

I've owned (and own) more expensive watches and cheaper ones too and the Khaki King still gets the most wrist time. It's sometimes on a silicone strap, sometimes it's on the bracelet. It dresses up and down. It's been very accurate (-1.1 seconds/day last time I checked) and if you're wearing it Monday to Friday and taking it off on the weekends, the 80 hour power reserve means it will still be ticking Monday morning.

And then you wear your Citizen Garrison on the weekend. Being Eco-Drive means it will still be ticking come Saturday morning.

Here's one more for you, and I have one of these as well. It's been discontinued but you can find them used for a good price and some retailers still have NOS at a small discount. It's in the spirit of the Citizen you posted so I think you'll dig a Citizen Promaster Tough Eco-Drive. It's a "tough" watch (hence the name) but it's a bit smaller than a lot of the other watches marketed as beefy and tough. 42mm in diameter. Not super thick. The lack of a removeable caseback helps there. It's quartz and solar powered, there's no reason to take the back off. It would make the perfect weekend watch companion to your Khaki King daily.

Image

It's a little cleaner, a little more refined than the Garrison, but if you like the look of the Garrison more then go for it.

But the answer is, you need two. Get the Khaki King first though. Then wait 2 paychecks and buy the Citizen.

(never been a fan of the Bulova....)

Love the designs. I wish they used a meca quartz. That would really set it off for me.

·

I ordered that exact citizen. I'm here is the US, but if you order from a UK store the price is only $180. It's the tough solar titanium. I've read good reviews.

·

Three excellent options! The Citizen titanium looks great, will probably be comfortable, and has a reliable, proven movement, although that is true of all three. The Hamilton is a great GADA watch. The Lunar Pilot has Bulova's 262 kHz high accuracy movement. Of these three, I would probably pick the Citizen, both for versatility and a set it and forget it watch you can just grab and go as long as it gets plenty of light. 😃

That's a great looking thing, I really like CWC.
If you happen to time events longer than an hour, then I would agree, there are better options out there for that purpose.

If you do it systematically and very often, then probably a digital watch would be even better.

Or a cell phone. Which also tells time, right? But I get your point and you're right and watch collecting is a niche activity. I'm sure 98% of the people who buy a Rolex Milgauss don't have genuine concerns about magnetism affecting their watch (and suggesting 2% do is probably being generous) and most people who buy a chronograph watch will never use the Tachymeter, or possibly even the chronograph function itself. So many watches with the VK movements look fantastic. My PSA about the shortcomings of the VKs is more about my disappointment in buying one and realizing it stopped after an hour when trying to keep track of a parking meter. Watch makers don't advertise this limitation enough. I even reached out to a microbrand maker and asked about another version of a chronograph he was making (looked fantastic) and even he didn't know the VK stopped after an hour. He was too far into the case design to change gears but suggested to me his next one would be different for this reason.

Anyway, your Roue looks great. I've stared at that model (and others) on their web page for far too long. I've never known someone to own one but, yes, they are fantastic looking watches that don't get a lot of attention which is a shame. Of all the VK movement watches, the Roue is the one that would tempt me into that world again and 98% of buyers probably won't notice it stops after an hour. I'll more likely end up with a CAL or SSD as an affordable but great looking knock around watch but I'll probably own one some day.

·

Go for the Lunar Pilot, really cool watch with a cool story behind it.

·

Congratulations on the new job! My vote is for Hamilton.

Shortcomings can be very frustrating, I totally get you 😉

·

I would go for the Lunar Pilot, it looks really cool. I think it could work on leather as well if you wanted to dress it up. The movement is sophisticated and interesting as well!

·

I'd suggest a Glycine.  There's a whole bunch to choose from under $500:

Appreciate all the input, today was last day so I bought this.  I realized I should wait a bit and see the vibe in the new role before buying an “office/work” watch.

I was hunting a weekend wear anyways and this fits the bill, just gotta buy some 22MM Straps.

Great choices...you must have a large wrist if you are thinking about the Bulova Lunar Pilot...that sucker is 45mm and wears large. I have a 7.5 inch wrist and can pull it off, but it's really big...kinda like wearing a G-Shock. I almost had one in the collection. Purchased from Jomashop for a sweet deal but the watch arrived with a bent crown stem. So back it went for a refund...they were very good about the return.

You really can't go wrong with the Hamilton or the Citizen...both are excellent choices as well.

Not sure your wrist size...if 7 inches or under, then Lorier makes some fantastic watches...I have a few in the collection and they wear really well and look great...plus they are around $500...

If larger than 7 inches, I would recommend looking at Aquatico...they make some really cool watches for under $500...well made and lots of selection...

Lastly, if you are in the large watch game and want something a bit different, than LIV really produces some quality product for around the $500 mark...

Thanks! More like a Dragon cave filled with boxes 😂

·

Khaki Field King. It's sublime.

·

That’s a very tough decision because they are all excellent

·

The Kaki is fantastic, with a bracelet it is very versatile. In short, it would be the one I would choose, I have the PVD Titanium and I am very happy
