Lunar Pilot Meteorite

So I’ve been pondering a purchase for a while, celebratory on a few ways, upcoming anniversary, initial success in a new job. Lunar Pilot has been on the watch list for a while, and now they come out with the meteorite version, smaller 43.5MM case, grade 5 titanium, downside is it’s $1500, that’s 2x the normal 43.5MM SS black or panda version and no bracelet.

Finances aren’t an issue, I’m just frugal, so what does the WC think about this vs normal LP?

Just go for the normal version. I have the original 45mm and I love it.

·

One of my favorites and my most accurate watch.

I really love the look of the meteorite here - which I normally don’t care for. I also love a good titanium watch. That said, in this particular case, I’d want whichever version was closest to the original based on the history of the watch. I’d go with the regular 43mm version.

No need to spend all that money.

I amnaged to pick this up in a local auction recently for a little over $900, let someone else take the initial hit on purchase and pick up on the grey market

The standard 'mini' Lunar Pilor at 43.5mm is a great watch; I own one. And I previously owned the PVD version of the 45mm version of the watch. So I know this watch. I like this watch.

That said, I think the meteorite dial is a gimmick. I think ALL meteorite dials, on all watches, are gimmicks. It's not worth the RRP. If you could get one at a steep discount, however, great.

I had the 45mm and the L2L was just too long…sold it and tried out the smaller 43.5…it’s much better….I like the Meteorite variant but haven’t pulled the trigger due to its cost….as we say, don’t worry about what we say…try it and if it speaks to you get it!!!

I love my Black version, but the difference in price maybe too much. The original is great watch at a decent price. But like all collectors it's really your call.

i used to own that same watch, but it fit my friend better. i'd buy it again if it came in a smaller size

·

I love the meteorite dial, but the price. Egads. Sadly pass.

·

I just posted about mine recently. Love it but got it for 30% off as a condition

·

No on the price. Just no. This is a 300$ watch after discount at best.

·

I really like the LP and I have the anniversary version. It's a great watch, but a meteorite dial doesn't add $1000 to it! I picked up the gold anniversary version at $1000 total, and it can be found on a discount now.

·

love the dial and the bezel. do it! Get a discount if you can..

·

Just rock the 45mm its a stunner!!!! 😎

·

I like this one the most.

·

The "community" mostly loves it. I do not. But if you can pull off a large watch (both versions are large), then by all means...

·

My wrist is 7.25”, so this size watch doesn’t worry

·

It looks great but not sure why it's so expensive. The premium of theirs doesn't really match the premium any other Microbrand ascribes to meteorite dials. A couple hundred more, maybe? But double? Meh. Not without serious discounting since it feels like an obscene price grab.

·

You're buying a piece of history regardless of price, the question is where is your 51% leaning towards. If you've seen these watches side by side, you'd be able to decide a little easier based on your taste. I haven't purchased one of these Lunar watches yet, but when I do decide to pick one up, I will have a tough time too. In my opinion they will both scratch the same itch, what I would do is get regular lunar pilot and MIL-SHIPS-W-2181, and still have extra money left over for a dinner or whatever else you please for the $1500.

Well that would help, islander had 10% off and the Bulova moon clock as a gift. I’d really like to try it on before buying but that seems tough to do

·

Id either try to live with the regular variants or get the special edition used.

·

Not a chronograph fan, but that is really nice!

Any particular reason thät you feel thät meteorite dials are gimmicks? Is the source of materials untrustworthy? Do you dislike the crystalline patterns of meteors? Just think thät they're too dang expensive?

·

As a frugal person myself, I would go for the normal version, closer to the real thing.

I thought the same thing but the 43.5 is $700, the older 45 can be found new for sub-$400

None of the above? I used the word 'gimmick' quite deliberately. As you might know, it means, 'a trick or device intended to attract attention, publicity, or trade.' Because to my mind, the Lunar Pilot is a very solid proposition as it stands. But just like the previous limited edition with the dark grey case and gold accents (which I really didn't like and that I also felt was quite gimmicky), the meteorite dial represents an update to an already sound watch, in a bid to squeeze more money out of it. It's like Bulova has noticed they have a little cash cow on their hands and are going to start milking it until it turns into cheese.

The best Lunar Pilot you can buy is the non-limited 43.5mm in either black or white dials.
