Russian watches and Ebay

Hmm, got carried away on Ebay. Bought 9 watches😎😬All were cheap, the dearest was about $80. One was bought just for the case, as I have a more attractive movement to put into it.

What attracts me to them? Their looks, and with some it's the shape of the acrylic. Can't buy new watches that are as different as these.

The dearest watch, was listed as a *marriage" watch, new case and dial, movement is from 1953.

I tried to attach 9 photos, didn't work, guessing it's too many. So I'll attach as many as I can, and add others as a further comment. The marriage watch, is the one with the "pack of cards dial" I think I need help. 🤔🙄😂🤣

Soviet! There is something about Soviet timepieces that makes me think that maybe communism wasn't all bad but I can't really get a better grasp on it.

Ah, forgotten about this one, arrived a few minutes ago.

So, in @Deeperblue 's methodology of collecting you are entering phase 2.0.

I went through a similar phase and loved the weirdness of old Soviet watches. At some point I had about twelve or fifteen. They have been worn and maintained. There are a lot of miles on all of the them. As long as you can handle some imperfections, they are a great low cost/low risk way of exploring the limits of your taste.

Vintage Raketa is tough and reliable.

Those russkie watch stylists had (and still have) a way of doing things differently and making the most of the movements they had. I'm sure the first owners of all your watches would have been proud as all heck to get one. A nice little bunch of time capsules.

I have a little Pobeda of my own, and I mean little. I swear, if I filed just a bit off the ends of the lugs, the whole thing would fit inside the case of my Duro.

No #vostok pieces!?😭

Love one with the green dial. Curious about the one you will put an other movement into, keep us posted please 😉

·

That one with the playing cards on the dials is absolute fire.

I have that movement, if I recall mine is dated 1955. That is what I will be putting into one of the cases.

Hey

I say if you truly are going to enjoy and wear them all or even if some are for collecting to look at and it brings you joy then more power to you!

FYI all watch collectors need help! It comes with the territory lol

I need to believe in reincarnation, and come back as a millipede. 😊😎

I have done this also. Bought a few soviet pieces on Etsy a couple of years ago. Only one I keep and very rarely wear is a vintage Vostok diver:

Image

My main issue with them was just having to get them serviced was so expensive comparatively to their cost. I tried to service one myself and quickly realized I don't have the patience to acquire the needed skill. I'll stick to battery changes and case mods for the time being.

Indulged myself putting together a small Russian collection during COVID. It was fun to do and not so terribly expensive, I figured why not?
