Getting my first luxury watch - Omega vs Grand Seiko

Hello guys, finally I have saved enough to get my first luxury watch. Having a hard time to decide between the Omega Seamaster 300 Heritage in blue 2021 edition and the Grand Seiko SBGE267 (limited edition in Asia). Very similar in terms of pricing pre owned. Looking to hear thoughts in comments as well!

For me it would be a very easy decision. Omega always wins.

·

I don't like 4 o'clock crowns and own the Omega Seamaster300 Heritage myself so . . .

·

When I was in a similar situation I went with the Grand Seiko. I like being a little different and I figured Omegas are easy to come by so I could always get it later. But ultimately you can't go wrong with either.

·

First luxury watch is get an automatic so I’d go omega

·

The Grand Seiko is a good pick but that Seamaster is doing all the right things for me. That would be my choice. A time only design will always be timeless design.

·

I would go for the Omega. For me the dial is so clean and I love how the colors contrast (and complement) each other to make the time easier to read than on the GS.

·

I’m a tad biased 😬

Omega.

·

Omega.

·

Personally I'd want a Grand Seiko before I'd ever want an Omega, but these two are really solid choices imo

·

From those selections I’d take the Omega. Grand Seiko speaks to me more with their elegance and heritage lines rather than their sport pieces.

·

GS because it has more to offer

·

Greatly appreciate your comments guys. Looks like many have voted the Omega.

I went to the AD to try on the GS. Too bad the SBGE 267 is sold out in Malaysia, I had to try on another model but with the same dimensions. Somehow it was way too big for my wrist! It felt very flashy wearing it at the same time..

Guys, another pre-owned watch was just listed for sale at the same price range. It is the latest Tag Heuer Glassbox Carrera Chronograph blue edition. Went to AD to try it on. It felt a little small on my wrist but one thing I like about the watch is the fact that it looks classic and sporty at the same time. Would be nice if it came with a bracelet.

I'm spoilt for choices! hahaha

·

Omega. It will give you that feeling a respectable luxury watch, it did for me when I got my Speedmaster, which was my first luxury watch.

·

I would try both of them on before making up my mind.

Watches sometimes look and feel completely different in person.

However I gravitate towards the clean design of the Omega, which judging from looks alone is a slam dunk in my opinion.

·

Omega on this one

·

Go try them both on. Your heart will decide once they are on wrist ♥️

·

Go for the Omega. GS bracelets have no on the fly adjustment so getting a good fit could be problematic

·

Do you want a dressy sports watch or a sporty dress watch?

·

Omega hands down

·

There’s something timeless about the Omega, if it’s between those two definitely the Omega. The GS seems to be very busy too much going on especially when you include gilt markers.

·

Interesting perspective, my wife who is not a watch person but loves other jewellery instantly picked the Omega. When I asked why, she said the GS looked cheap! The Omega looked like it was a high quality piece IHO.

Before you pull the trigger on your first watch, do a little research as to what type of watch will suit your lifestyle. I glanced through the posts and I saw besides the Omega, you are considering the Grand Seiko and a Tag. Those are three different types of watches. One is a Vintage styled dive watch, the other is a GMT Travel watch, and the tag is a chronograph racing watch. For me if I was advising someone on their first watch, I'd advise toward a diver type watch as it has a simple yet functional dive bezel for timing things, it's going to be very robust, and that style of watch can be worn for nearly every occasion. The GMT complication and spring drive are cool, but unless you travel a lot that complication is basically pointless. For the Tag that is a chronograph, generally chronographs cost more as they are more complex. So since the tag is the same price as the Omega and GS that is going to tell you the movement is likely NOT going to be up to the same quality as the Omega and GS.

·

Omega ... I am biased as well

If only the omega had printed numeral instead of sunken

·

Omega is great watch too many people recognise it could get stabbed for it prefer the Grand Selko with the spring drive movement.

·

OMEGA 🤩🤷🏽‍♂️

·

Omega

·

Omega - looks great now and in 20 years time

·

Thanks everyone for your kind comments and advice.

A little bit late to provide an update on the watch I purchased. Can't believe this watch hunting journey had me sleepless nights, waking up everyday as early as 3 to 4am doing my research on which watch to get. I went on to visit local ADs and pre owned sellers to test out the watches, it is true it will be different if you see the watch in person and how it wears on your own wrist. Wanted the omega seamaster 300 heritage quite badly but the condition of the watches wasn't as what as described in the advertisement.

Finally, the hunting has ended ... I bought the Tag Heuer Carrera Chrono Glassbox! Couldn't be any happier 😌
