Your Thoughts?

I’m mixed. Though the Erebus Origin watch design seems intended to tug at many different heart strings, its ultra-utilitarian slate from which it is built is exhaustingly-plain.

Image

Though its $299.00 pre-order price is impressive, I feel I’ve already purchased a watch of equivalent utility for just $30.00 more…and with noticably more distinct design flair — that being my Islander Monster.

Though I already feel properly-satiated in this genre…this is only my opinion.

What are your first impressions of this watch? Have you pre-ordered one?

No, I put my money on a Zelos on launch day.

·

No. Not because I don't like Jody, I do and wish him much success. The watch just didn't speak to me.

·

The design is a bit safe, but I like it overall. I didn’t order it based only on the size. It seemed like it would be just too much dial on my wrist at 41mm. At 39mm I surely would have ordered one.

·

To me this is a case of speccing watch to perfection on paper and they forgot the 'wow' factor. There's a reason microbrands are generally described as 'made/designed with passion'.

Wish Jody and Mr. P the best of luck for their next offering.

Islander watches are the best! 💪

I got both. 😂

I pre-ordered this blue one. It's nothing fancy and very much a tool watch, which is what I like. He did play it safe but I can't blame him. I would've preferred Arabic numerals instead of indices and a different shape for the seconds hand. It's a solid piece at $299.

I also bought a Zelos that day.

Erebus is a well spec'ed watch and build quality for the money. I'm just waiting for the new Mako lol.

Here's where I sit, I'm a big fan of Jody and I would really like one of his watches, It's just the extra cost of shipping, customs, etc to get it to the UK, and the months of waiting that has stopped me taking the plunge, anybody know exactly what the total would be?

·

First watch needed to be one to please the masses and generate bulk sales which I think they've done. Assuming this strategy works, the next watch should be something 'more'. I pre-ordered the orange one.

·

If this had come out a couple of years ago I would have definitely bought it as it ticks all the boxes for that first dive watch, but like @TalkingDugong says there’s nothing special about it. I can see it apealing to a lot of folks, but it’s not for me.

I really like Jody though so hope this works out though.

·

It looks to be a good spec, and nicely finished. I thought the hands and indices too plain for me, and I also feel it was just a bit more expensive than it should be. I like it but not enough to buy it, which is a shame cos I want to support Jody in his venture. Hopefully the next one will be more suitable.

·

I really, really like the blue Erebus and am a fan of JOMW ... but am not in the market for another watch at the moment, so no I haven't ordered one ...

Which one? I have this one.

Ooooh. That's a good one. That's the Swordfish? I thought you were getting a Hammerhead. I said to get that in burnt orange. This one is great. I love the texture on that dial.

It's a bit "ehhh" to me. The specs are great, but very mundane. People are buying because of their respect/love for Jody & JOMW. I do get the thought of your first watch have to appeal to the masses, before you get real edgy with your designs, but I think the inverse can be true too.

That's me. I certainly don't need it, but I think it's nice for what it is and I like Jody. Happy to help him out.

Oh!! look!!..another dive watch! yeeehhh....

Yeah, a safe option. I guess they were hedging their bets.

It's the Spearfish Burnt Orange with the La Joux Perret G100 Soinge movement.

I bought the orange ember 42mm Swordfish just this last launch. Also bought Hammerhead Hammered Red Dial

·

I like it, but I have several Seiko powered dive watches. My big watch purchase for next year is gonna be either a Hamilton Khaki Field or a Bulova Hack. Leaning toward the Hammy.

I couldn’t. Every time I looked at my watch I’d think “what a bastard”

Hail brother! The Emperor Protects!

Glad to see I'm not the only one to make that association with the character in your picture. 😈

I wanted the red dial and missed out on it.

·

I like it but it’s not unique enough that I could justify adding another micro brand diver/tool watch.

Jody said they worked with the guy that designed Zelos watches? It shows.. and I already own a zelos great white so no need for another one 🤣

·

I would have bought if the lug to lug wasn’t that large. If Jody comes up with 39 or 38 mm diver, I would have bought it.

·

I'm tired of the same old microbrand watches, if your going microbrand at least buy something unique

The last mucrobrand watch that peaked my interest was the zelos nova aventurine, it was stunning and then they stopped making it..

·

I thought about it. Tempted by the nice bezel action and sound, the bright yellow dial, and the way the paddle on the second hand lines up perfectly with the markers as it goes by. There's something soothing about watching it tick past.

...but I don't really need another watch, I'm already trying to sell a few of the ones I have at the moment.

I don't think anyone needs to feel bad for Jody, though. I saw a post from him the other day saying that actual sales have passed his peak optimistic projection. And I'm glad; I think he deserves to do well, and I'm sure the people who do buy this watch will enjoy them and get value from them.

·

I like it. It's solid and would buy but I have way too many divers

·

I love Jody's channel and hope for success with his launch, but this one's got a slimmer bezel and more blank dial space than my liking.

·

No design to it, all the elements are there but it looks like a watch made of Lego designed with an etch o sketch , block markers block hands. Love the channel like the bloke understand playing it safe but this is Volvo safe.
