A social media stiletto sunk to the bone

I responded to Vincero’s peculiarly-aggressive marketing campaign in 2019 with the purchase of my Icon Automatic.

Image

Upon receiving it, I was impressed by its well-executed finish, sapphire crystal, solid link bracelet, sturdy 147 gram weight, NH35 movement, and 100 meter water resistance…all wrapped in a clean, sharp angular design perfect for any occasion. So…it was all hunky dory.

Image

The problem is, due to all the negative press Vincero received by the ‘all-knowing gods of the interwebs’, I curled into a cowardly ball and chose to lay it in my watch drawer instead of on my wrist. I even remember a nephew of mine questioning the character of my watch while attending a 4th of July picnic…clearly influenced by the stained stiletto social media waves over our spongy carcasses (though he is a bit of a self-righteous pud).

I decided enough is enough. Time to wear this watch because I like it. We shallow humans — always looking over our shoulders wondering what other people think. It’s one of our greatest weaknesses as a race. Do you think a dog cares much when another sniffs his sphincter?

What watch do you seldom wear because you’re afraid you’ll be judged by the masses?

Bravo! I'm not a fan of Vincero's sale tactics but I've found myself occasionally looking at them on Amazon and thinking: not a bad looking watch! Actually, I was once close to buying one as a dress watch. But I had a commitment not to buy Quartz anymore and so I skipped. But your's looks fantastic and I would wear it any day! 😊

Not afraid of wearing any of my watches.

All of them can F#$% themselves. Don't care what others think of what's on my wrist.

Wear it proudly.

Enjoy your watch!

Cheers

Thanks loads! It is every bit as nice as any of my other watches in my opinion.

This is the attitude I need always. Cheers!

I bought an Invicta Pro Diver to mod it. I actually sized the bracelet, and showed the watch to my daughter. She responded with: "Eww, blingy!" I have to admit she has a point.

·

Wear what you like… Daniel Wellington, Invicta, Apple Watch. I don’t like them, but I also don’t like other things. I don’t like influencer media marketing. But You like it, and I’m allowed to dislike it… and that’s all there is.

"My wrist, my rules" ;-)

On second thought, why bother about opinions? There are people, who swear that those Chinese "brands", like Pagani or Feice, etc. are good watches. I'd put a Vincero on over that crap any time! 🤣

Nobody has ever remarked on any watch I've ever worn. It would be in frightfully poor taste to do so.

Perhaps I don't hang out with enough teenagers.

This guy was in his late 20’s. Yeah.

Good watch though.

I like their logo. The sharp V design complements the skeleton sword hands. A good ‘pop’ in my estimation.

·

It would be cool to play a little game where you digitally remove the logo and name of the watch and ask people to say whether they like it or not and how much they would pay for it.

I like the design. Nice watch.

Many thanks!

·

If you enjoy it, who cares? Looks sharp.

I said once before here that I buy watches, not watch marketing. If we got to hear as much from every brand's marketing teams as we were forced to hear from Vincero's, we'd probably be annoyed by most of them. It's entirely possible, even perhaps reasonable, to wear a watch from a company you find annoying, if you like the watch.

My first watch back after not wearing or owning one for a few years after high school was a quartz Vincero. I wanted to wear a watch again, and I really liked the way it looked when it showed up in one of those ads on YouTube. I wore it for like three or four years. I never submerged it in water, but it never failed. I started looking for another watch, and fell into the rabbit hole, learning all about them. Then I went through a few months and a few watches, subject to the usual traps of buying things that YouTube videos say are great watches, quartz is bad, digital is bad, watches YouTube videos say are bad are indeed bad.

I like where I'm at now in my collecting though, and I'm not sure if any conventional watch advertisements would've gotten me wearing a watch again, without throwing it in my face like Vincero did.

...Puts on her Miss Manners bonnet:

The time to be dismissive of a watch is when a friend asks "Oh, should I buy this watch?"

After the watch is bought, the only thing to say to someone who made an unfortunate purchase is, "Oh, how do you like the watch?"

If they complain about it, then you can offer suggestions, but not before.

Interesting read .. well written 👌

·

Same with me and DW watches. Their prices are stupid for the specs but they really have some pretty designed watches.

This is one of their discontinued models. I really like this model. Simple, dressy, under 40mm, thin, and blue-painted hands.

·

The opinion of the masses matters little to me when it comes to the unimportant, and I’d personally rather give my money toward a Spaghetti Scametti for the novelty than a Vincerò. I won’t knock anyone for owning one though.

·

Wear what you think looks good on you and people will naturally gravitate towards you and your watch - irrespective of brand

·

The Fossil Modern Machine ME3081 automatic my wife gave me for Christmas 2016. It's because I actively advise against buying this type of watch.

I mean for the money we paid, I got her one as well unknowing as I was back then, we could have bought each other Seiko's. This, by the way, is getting more and more difficult though.

Still, even a much cheaper Casio with a known and proven reliable (quartz) movement is still better than a Fossil with an unknown - probably cheap - collection of cogs and wheels on the inside.

·

My man! Don't give a sh about the opinion of others. If it fits you, wear it to eternity. And thank you for showing me that Vincero actually isn't that bad. I apsolutley agree that the marketing really messed with their image.

·

Dogs probably do care what the other dog thinks when doing the sniff....it's part of being a social I.E. pack animal like us.....my cat however couldn't give a fart....

🤣

·

If someone doesn't like my watch I'll tell them to "buy me a real one then". 🤣 Like the saying goes, opinions are like assholes everyone has one. The real question is will you wallow in their shit, or not. The choice is yours👍🏾

·

The only thing that matter is the fact you like it, for me there is no problem until you pretend me to like it as well.

PS in fact a dog cares a lot when another sniffs his rear, that is why they do it lol

·

Agreed. I used to turn my nose up at those brands until I bought a couple. Turns out they far exceeded my expectations. Do I like all Pagani and Steeldive? No. But these are far better than I'd have ever imagined.
