Watch collecting and EDC

Within the world of watch collecting is this adjacent and sometimes intersecting space of EDC.

Whether that’s literature, knives, pens, ear phones, flashlights or notepads I see all sorts and I love the stories peoples EDC can tell. Generally the world of EDC seems to lie somewhere between prepper and tactical bros, but within the watch community I see it as carrying useful yet sometimes luxurious things that are necessary within that persons daily life.

I mean what’s a luxury watch if not part of someone’s edc, consciously or not considered.

I’m curious what you lovely people consider to be part of your EDC, what recommendations you’d have to add to someone’s, or if you think the whole idea of EDC is silly.

Happy Hump Day and Cheers! 🐪 🍻

When I go out anywhere, it's wallet, keys, phone, gun.

Only the finest Bazookas for me.

Like watches, none of these EDC things are necessary. It’s nice to have a pen, but you can always find one or write a note on your phone. A knife is often useful, but I lived for several decades without one in my pocket. And we all know nobody needs a watch.

All that to say, yes people’s EDC tells you something about them. To me it says, whatever you carry, that you like to be prepared. That takes many forms, but all these items speak to a concern that you might not be prepared for some situation you’ll encounter. So what you carry tells us what you think will happen and what you’ll need. Also that you feel the need to plan for the day.

I do think EDC collecting us a little silly, but at the same time I don’t see a problem with that as collecting anything, maybe unless it’s financially beneficial, is a little silly, so I’m going to keep with it. Here’s my carry today.

As I was wearing my only moonphase watch today I tried to match it slightly with my Knafs Lander knife with lunar scales and my Fisher Space Pen.

The bottle opener / ruler is a fantastic touch! Might need to add one of those to my EDC… that pen is glorious as well.

Thanks Orbitkey multitool is great in a pinch, but obviously can’t compare to the edc offerings from the likes of Victorinox and Leatherman, but it is very portable. I really like the pen to it’s quite fun that it’ll work in zero gravity or upside down, though I ’m never going to test that.

Phone, wallet, watch, wireless earbuds, and that's about it. Maybe a pen on very rare occasions.

My watch isn't "luxury", but I'm definitely on the same page with you.

What’s the flashlight and how do you like it? That’s probably the next thing I want to acquire.

Great set up 🍻

I'm not sure it's EDC if I don't take it with me, but I always have them within reach. Leatherman, olight, and watch.

·

Nice Leatherman, I envy that model

Just an example, firearm was off body carry that day.

No need for luxury, the anthracite or black sunray dial dresskx might be one of the most versatile and classy watches on the market at any price point TBH.

I live in a city and get around on public transit, taxis, or walking for the most part so that means I carry a nice backpack like most city dwellers. In that backpack is always my small 'EDC' pack. I keep a small knife, a battery pack with a few cables to charge my phone or other items, I usually carry a Clif Bar or two, a small hand towel (hitchhikers guide to the galaxy anyone?), Advil, floss, a flashlight (that I have never ever needed), a couple tea bags (believe it or not I have needed them), a small pipe and some weed, cough drops, band-aids, a pen, a sharpie marker, a small notebook and some plastic flatware. Additionally I always have a pair of Blu-Blocker sunglasses, pepper spray, AirPods and the usual phone and keys.

The backpack is usually my Filson rucksack, but if I'm going for groceries or need a larger bag I have a huge Mission Workshop backpack that can hold a small person if I needed.

I will dig into that little EDC bag several times a week for any number of the contents, it really has helped men out quite a bit. Floss is a great thing to carry, as is a random small towel. That stuff is a lot more handy in my life than a compass or a pair of pliers.

I don't go for too much of the 'tactical' stuff but I suppose it has its place.

I do a lot of backpacking and have thoroughly enjoyed it in the back country. A little skeptical still of the blade sharpener, but it’s nice to have the option.

Thx! Sometimes a white strap adds some nice pop.

Usually I also try to carry an orange Rite-in-the-Rain or fisher space pen, however I also use the pens as impromptu fidget toys for my daughter, so they get stashed in crazy places/drawers, or not returned, etc. Usually find them in fun places like cabinet drawers, pull out freezer/fridge, inside shoes, etc weeks later.
