Sunshine! and a birthday.
Well it look like I managed to pull my 1961 ass through yet another year and I get to celebrate another birthday.
And celebrate I will. The sun is shining gloriously outside and the temperatures are expected to rise to an eye blistering 35C peak during the day. It's still nice outside while I drink a strong brew laced with cardamom and a heavy duty coffee requires wearing a watch matching its weight and the weather outside.
Enter the Islander ISL-68, stage left.
With a mass of 150gr and a 15.5mm thickness the ISL-68 is one of my beefier watches but the 44mm L2L and the upgrade to female end links keeps it very wearable on my 16.5mm wrist.
The ISL-68 is basically the Long Island Watch equivalent of the Seiko Mini Turtle and is compatible with all SKX013 after market parts, which means I'll be able to keep this one running for quite a while.
It may not be the fanciest watch that I can wear for my birthday and it may cause the Maître d'hôtel at the posh restaurant where we are going to dine turn up his nose, but f*ck him. It's my birthday and I never liked him anyway.
I'm a big fan of watches that are interesting because they are either unique, have interesting features, well designed or simply offer a great value for their price.
