Defeated by DST, again

I'm having a lot of troubles with the switch between summer and winter time keeping. My main issue involves the cat who is reliably waking me from sleep every morning 15 minutes before dawn. He doesn't care about DST, just like he doesn't care about weekends, days off or holiday.

Image

The other issue is of course setting the time on my watches and since I only do it when I rotate watches it may take some time to get to the last, and by then I already forgot that I have to adjust the hour's hand.

Image

Then there are the watches that proves that I'm too stupid to own them. Like my ProTrek PRG-510GB where I can never remember what arcane combination of buttons I have to push in order to set the time.

Image

The worst are probably my mechanical GMT watches because I keep forgetting in which direction I have to turn the crown to set the date and which one sets the GMT hand. I always end up tracking UTC instead of Paris and Berlin or setting the date wrong.

Image

Which is why this time I decided to play it smart and wait for the weekend before wearing my Zelos Horizons. This should give me plenty of time to get it right and in the meantime I can waste my time as usual by just looking at the dial.

I have the same issue with my quartz watches. I’m seriously considering getting just one with radio band/bluetooth to replace all others just so I don’t have to deal with this issue.

My brother has a collection of over 1,000 quartz digital watches. When setting them back 1 hour he discovered that about 40 needed new batteries!

What is he doing with this 1,000 watch collection, except for changing batteries of course?.

Is your brother on the Crunch or does he not have time for such foolishness? 😉

Get a Casio Oceanus then you don't need to worry. My only issue is not knowing how it actually does anything other than copy the time/date on my phone.

Not sure what you can do about the cat.. almost a week later and I'm still trying to get the 12 (not mine, I hasten to add) that I'm looking after here readjusted to their new breakfast time.

As for my watches.. I could be a lost cause. I have GBD200 G-Shock. It doesn't have atomic time keeping but it does have Bluetooth which I foolishly keep turned off to save the battery (I know what you're thinking.. idiot, right 😂).

I picked it up to adjust the time, and saw that it was already reading the right time. I was perplexed for a minute, and then the realization hit me.. I didn't change the time zone when I left Portugal and crossed over into Spain. I've been walking around with the wrong time on my G-shock for about a month and hadn't noticed.🙄

My high accuracy perpetual calendar needs adjusting twice a year. Which is annoying. The answer, I fear, is fewer watches. And fewer cats.

·

We changed last weekend to GMT, watches weren’t too bad given the collection is small and no GMTs; but the most complex was by far the clocks on the oven and microwave, they gave me a headache.

My cats are locked down stairs so aren’t too much of a problem, although they are loud and their miaows carry! My real issue though is the the three year old human dictator in my house, she has been pinging awake at 5am since the change.

No,he doesn't do any social media.

He's only just got his first smartphone.

The only watch so far that didn't need adjusting is the G-Shock GMW-B5000, courtesy of its Bluetooth connection to my phone.

The cat is a cat. His job is to keep me amused and and provide an endless litany of complaints exposing my faults and my incompetence at catering to his needs.

I think your cat and my dog have the same playbook.

I am with you on changing the time on analog hands on my wife’s Casio , its a rubics cube to me Claude 😂

Or, pay six figures for a watch that takes into account DST. 😂

My 20€ Nokia used to manage it. 🙄

DST is evil and should be cancelled.

That is the answer, not "fewer watches".

You should post a picture!

The answer to your dilemma is. 1, volley the cat, 2, own a blue duro, it's all you ever need. 😊.

I don't have a wide angle lens!

My grandfathers CitizenWindTimer has a fussy setting button so it's only right from November to March.

Thankfully I live in a world where I'm not limited to just what I need.

·

I just wait for my mechanical watches to die and reset. 😀

Was looking at a G Shock with radio band and Bluetooth.

But that is quartz/electronic/smart watch, right?

It is pretty easy for those types of watches to achieve, completely different for a mechanical watch, which is what I was refering to.
