So, I'm obsessed with minimalist, multifunction watches and also Explorer homages (finances!) right now... Found these two tempting offers from Casio but can't decide. Yes, I want both but also have budget concerns,
The first is the EF-121D-1AVEG, which has a smart Explorer look without losing originality.
Pros: This one boasts a beautiful dial (MWC reviewed it last year), a 10-year battery, gorgeous looks and a nice case shape that will work for me.
Cons: I have another Explorer homage on the way from another brand. This battery will eventually need replacing. Don't know if the bracelet will be comfy for me. A bit overpriced for what it is at about $80+ including shipping.
The next is Casio Lineage LCW-M100TSE-1AER, which offers tons of value for the money (Be still my heart!).
This one is on a titanium bracelet, Tough Solar power, sapphire crystal, also looks amazing. I have a non-Lineage solar atomic watch similar to this -- titanium, same size dial/band, atomic signal setting. I know I will love wearing it.
Pros: See above. This thing has multiple functions, and will work with my job so get more wrist time.
Cons: Price - It is almost triple the cost of the other watch. I already have a similar (though lower quality) watch very like this one.
From a practical perspective, the Lineage is the winner. From a "oh, that looks so cool" perspective, the Explorer semi-homage scratches that itch.
Anyone have experience with these two? I'm curious to hear what my fellow watch nerds have to say.

My experience with a waveceptor was that the extra features are a bit of pain to use, but having a watch with solar and atomic radio is really cool, plus titanium makes a wonderful 'wear it and forget it' material. I think you'd be happier with the lineage

Thanks! I'm leaning that way too. Appreciate your comments.
I like both but the solar function is very nice. Solar watches have spoiled me now I wish all my quartz watches were solar. Multi Band 6 is great also if you live within range of one of the transmitters.
I'd hold off until you get that other watch you have on the way. I bet wearing that one for a little while will lean you toward or away from the first watch you mentioned here.

Excellent advice. Thanks!

I like the solar function too. I get the transmitter signal in my area, if I set the watches near the window at night.
I like the cleaner aesthetic of the lineage but that's because it looks similar to my oceanus. If you want a cheap explorer homage that's not the usual offerings then this can be had pretty cheap used

Yeah, that one isn't bad at the Amazon price either. Thanks!

If cost is a concern and you really like the analog 3 hand homage.
Get it!
Having multiple watches that look similar has not stopped 99% of the people on this app. For example @jcwatch has a mess load of #zelos divers. Various dials and bezel yet all dive watches. From his #wruw posts he's happier than a fat kid with a cupcake.
All this to say only you can justify what will be your flavor of cupcakes. 👍🏾

We'll said lol
Casio makes cool watches. My own preference is for the LCW-M100TSE-1AER because of titanium and solar, but the other one is also not shabby at all.

Thanks! You are right about the multiple watches that look similar. I have two Bambinos that are almost identical yet I love them both.

Yes, this review is what convinced me to get the Wave Ceptor I already have, and I love it. It's my favorite everyday watch and perfect at my job.

I wish someone would combine solar with mecha-quartz. This would solve the two "problems" with quartz watches - battery changes and the one-tick second hand.
