I’d like to say I did it, but I didn’t

Have you ever tried a watch on and the fit was just so perfect you though that it was meant to be?

Have you ever gotten an AD pull the watch you pointed at out of the box, and it’s already sized to your wrist size?

Well, that’s exactly what happened to me the FIRST time I was visiting an Omega AD and asked the guy if could just try the Speedmaster on.

It was a beautiful moment, and I’d like to say I did purchase the watch, but I didn’t. It is way above my league when it comes to price, at least for the moment…

One day, though. So I hope. Until then, I’ll keep looking up, and dreaming about the stars.

You’re right. It was a good fit and it looked nice on you!

Looks Amazing! No worries you will get there. The best part usually prices go down if you buy in the secondhand market.

·

It’ll come sooner than you think! 🥃

Happy for you that you found the perfect fit watch. Save a bit more and wait for opportunities on secondary, there are plenty. This version will probably get a bit more attainable due to white dial version hype.

I used to dream about the AP perpetual calendar watches that were featured in Italian and French design magazines that arrived monthly into the mail room of the large architectural firm that was my first employer after graduation during the middle 1980s. The watches were not merely above my financial reach simply not available here in Toronto unless you knew a private collector. I can honestly admit that years later when I did finally sourced not just one but several, they were not what I had fantasized about, just man made mechanical objects for sale. I still love watches but dream different dreams now! Best of luck to you! ❤️

Savor this feeling Carlos, milk it as long as you can. When you eventually get that watch, you'll reminisce at the anticipation you have now with great affection.

Yes, it looks perfect on you. Thank God for the new bracelet. The speedy ain't going no where. Buy it when the time is right.

This has happened to me twice. Once with the Omega SMP 300 (which I did not purchase) and once with the new 40mm Rolex Explorer 1 (which I did buy).

The fit on the Omega was near perfect, but some design aspects of the watch just don't speak to me.

The Rolex is a different story. The fit was perfect AND the stars aligned that I was able to get one only a few days after trying one on and sharing my interest while on travel. There were too many sings to ignore, so it felt ever more meant to be (at least that is how I justified the purchase).

That’s a grail watch right there

When the time comes, I’ll definitely will consider pre owned, or maybe something like Jomashop. We’ll see…

I definitely will, thank you for the kind words… I sure hope it comes down in price, although with Omega price increases recently, I have my hesitations…

The beautiful thing about this story is that it summarizes the human nature, and at the same time, your personal evolution. Watches will always be human made objects for sale. Just as buildings are nothing more than a set of smaller objects arranged in an specific way to make a space worthy of being inhabited, but it is us, in our minds & hearts who give value to watches as art, as design, as the soul of one or many persons poured into something, like the design of “La Sagrada Familia” in Barcelona, Spain, or like the minute handcrafted details in a RW Smith watch, for example. Thanks for your comment… and BTW, I freaking love Toronto. One of the best meals I’ve had was in St. Lawrence Market.

It is to me now, for some this is affordable, for me, it is aspirational to say the least. I have to work my butt off to be comfortable spending that sum on a watch, but it will come, in due time.

And you have a beautiful, interesting story to go along with it. The explorer is beautiful, gorgeous, well designed, simple, elegant, robust… it is fantastic. I’m very glad that you were able to get it.

Right back at you! Thanks for your insights. Toronto is under rated, might never win another Stanley Cup but we do have decent food. I can only count a small number of friends who are watch people but they are passionate about the hobby, in fact passionate about everything. ❤️

I feel the exact same way about friends when it comes to a specific passion. Let alone watches… That’s why this is the only social media platform I have. The perfect medium for watch appreciation, and geeking out about watches.

It almost makes me believe watch people are ok! lol. Best! ❤️

Can’t say I relate! I hate that every time I have to try a watch I have to hold the bracelet and try to get a “feel” of how it might feel 😂

That’s usually the same for me…. That exactly what made it all the more special. I hope that happens someday to you. It was really amazing…
