When you don't click with a watch....

Asking for advice here. The SRPE57 is a home run, beautiful watch. BUT, I just haven't connected with it like I thought I would. I upgraded the bracelet to a Strapcode Jubilee, but could it be too much of a GADA watch that it has a hard time finding a spot in the collection? Or is it the striking resemblemce to the Tudor Black Bay 36/39/41 that it loses some of it's identity? Can't put my finger on it. What do you do in this situation? I've heard force it in to rotation, wear it exclusively for a few days or a week, or even just go ahead and move it out. Would love to hear some thoughts on this scenario.

Hmmm try a leather strap to give it a bit more personality… black dials can pop more with different straps…

·

I would sell or trade it for a watch you enjoy. If you have to force yourself to wear it then its not meant to be.

·

Two questions.

What is "too much of a GADA watch" mean?

Was your spelling of Tudor a Freudian slip?

·

Ive got a few I've bought but not fell in love with. Generally they're cheaper pieces so I gift them to friends. Posher stuff is boxed up under the bed for when I need cash to fund the addiction 😂

·

Get rid of it if you’re not feeling it.

·

You can't force it. Needs to go if you don't gel with it.

·

You don't get that much money out of it if you sell it. I would simply mod it until you like it. This can also break what you perceive as a similarity to Tudor.

More like a fat finger typing Android-ian slip. 🤣

As far as the "too much of a GADA watch" goes, I like watches with an individual personality and try to match wearing them to enviromnents or situations that suit it. This thing is such a chameleon that you think it would be a good thing however I simply have other watches that I specifically gravitate to instead and it almost gets lost in the shuffle.

·

If it doesn't do it for you then maybe sell or pass it along to a friend / family, imo watches that don't click immediately never will.

And if you regret it in the future you can buy it again.

·

I have many watches I don’t “click” with. So be it. Wear it once or twice a year.

·

I love this watch, it’s on my list

·

I considered for a long time but I like specialization in my watches.

BB36/39 will be fine for me cause it’s a bit dressier by nature

Also I have this which does a similar duty and also is keeping me away from bb36/39 for now but I totally vibe with what you’re saying which is why I have been on the fence about that watch.

I also have too many Seikos so there’s that too lol

That’s happened to me. See if there’s something you can do to click with it. If after a few weeks/months and it still doesn’t click, I’d move it on.

·

Try it for a week as your only watch and wear it for everything. If at the end of the week you will know if it's for you or not. If you are counting down to the end of the week you know it needs to go.

·

For this watch in particular, I can recommend changing the case back for something slimmer and the glass for a domed sapphire, that just elevates the watch to a different level.

Concerning not connecting, I usually sell watches I don't click with, since I want all my watches to be worn as often as possible 💪🏼

·

There's gonna be times that you wanna wear something nice, but having something too nice ( even a Black Bay). Certain piece could come across as a flex or bring "unwanted attention". That's what you would have the Seiko for. If you already have something that fill that category, then try to sell it. Or do like @SUSFU303 and give it to a young relative.

Are you from the Bay Area or are they also a famous online shop?

Got mine from Trifecta Watches at a discount which was nice

I am not from the Bay area, but have bought and traded lots of watches with Topper. They are great to work with!

Oh really I’m from the bay but a little bit far now so was considering doing this.

Is the deal you trade in your watch after confirming a specific new watch you want? Good value given?

You can trade in for any new or used watch. Depending on the brand of the new watch, you can usually negotiate a discount and their used inventory they automatically take 10% off. Generally speaking, the trade in values have been comparable to what you would get if you sold on your own on eBay if you factor in seller fees when I have done the math. Since I live out state, they send me a shipping label to send in my trades.

I, too, rushed out to purchase this watch. (I went for the blue one.) But I find it gets hardly any wrist time these days. I'm also not sure why.

My best theory: it's just a biiit too big. (I like small watches.) I much preferred the SARB line, which had 37mm case sizes, in many ways the "Dresskx" predecessor.

·

It doesn’t matter how you love the watch on paper, if you have multiple opportunities to wear the watch and just don’t want to, it’s not worth keeping around.

You can use that money and save up for something you’ll really really want to wear.

·

It's happened with me literally hundreds of times. I have a habit of focusing in on the things I dislike about a watch, rather than what I like. Next thing I know it's listed on eBay

Agreed. Try on some leather straps n have a change of view... Trying it on will in fact affirm whether if you should keep it it let it go.

·

The specs are all great on this line, but I can't get past how to me it looks like a 5KX diver without the bezel. I vote sell and buy something else instead of trying to make it work.

·

To be fair, it's design elements are from the SKX, and not from Tudor. That's why it's called the dress KX. Having said that, since you're aware of your doubts about it being part of your collection, and your feelings that it doesn't bond with you, I think you know what to do.

·

Put it on a nato. Transforms it.

·

i’ve upgraded mine with a domed sapphire and played around with a whole bunch of straps/bracelets and now i’ve been wearing mine all day everyday

Lol I placed an order for this exact watch not more than 2 hours ago, I think leather strap and NATO straps are the way to go, this will replace my current swatch system 51 as daily.

·

got the same situation here with this Sharp Edge. does not click with the dial pattern .. and with 2 years experience, I decided to trade with another watch. will see how it goes.
