Let’s talk cars and watches

I often find that when people are into watches, they also like cars too. If you’re also into cars, which ones do you like and does partnerships between car brands and watch companies influence your watch purchasing decisions?

I consider myself a gear head. Pretty much interested in anything with an engine. The most automotive watch I’ve had is a Ferrari D50 Chronograph which I did like, but eventually sold.

I have found a handful of motor sports inspired watches that I like, but have yet to own. Usually it’s the size or price that sways me away.

I have a few vintage BMWs and Jeeps. I love cars, but I am not a huge fan of car/watch collaborations.

Nice, I’m a big bmw fan myself. But only currently have one. I like the late 90s/ early 00’s ones like the e36/46

I completely agree with this. The GP x AM collaboration was so well done by using the unmistakable AM green on to a great watch without needing to add the brand name to the dial to qualify it as a collaboration *ahem* breitling and Bentley .

And yes Pagani are absolutely amazing. The attention to detail is for sure unmatched by any other brand and the v12 is just *chef kiss* perfect. Actually. Almost perfect. The S70 in the McLaren F1. That was perfect

I’ve always wondered why as soon as watch brand collaborated with car companies the watches become the size of a dinner plate. Maybe they think they’re targeting the same customers who are over-compensating with their cars 😂😂

Nice, I’m eyeing e36s for when I finally stop pouring money into my e46. Probably not an m3, but wow, they are great. Still looking great some 26 years later

·

Massively into cars. My dad has worked for Mercedes for over 25 years, so the brand has been a part of my life for pretty much all my life. I have a biased towards anything AMG (a little less lately). AMGs have IWC clocks in them so there’s a cool link there.

My neighbor has a Shelby Cobra. I thought it was a kit car. Nope. The real deal!

This is what he wears on his wrist...

·

Did you have any influence over an Omega being what he wears?

Car guy here! If it has four wheels and an engine, I'll probably drive it. Obviously I'm a watch guy too... Otherwise I would not be here 🤷

I'm not a fan of car branded watches. Some that I have seen are well integrated (GPxAM - BMWx ICE watch and others - FordxFossil). As long as the logo is discreet, I'm ok with it. But I usually find them either cheap looking or , like someone has said earlier, tacky. The Ferrari watch I was given recently is both cheap and tacky. But it has a prancing horse on the dial.

I work full time at the family business in the automotive industry. And I also recently started my own business in the automotive industry. You can't say I don't like cars. If you have questions about car parts... You can always ask me!

I don't care what people say, I love my Miata!! 🤣

·

I used to be more into imports growing up, having spent far too much money on a Mazda3 & MazdaSpeed3.

I wore pretty much cheap Casios at the time and I still have each of them Haha. I thrashed my first F-91W over years of daily wear & I ruined my old Calculator watch with spray adhesive when a friend and I were installing a headliner in his Speed3.

Now I just have a tidy V6 Accord as my daily & I really like that watches are a MUCH cheaper hobby for me than cars ever were. I prefer affordable & Fun or rugged/tool watches now.

I now live vicariously thru my uncle who recently sold his resto-mod '55 Chevy Nomad, currently has a '66 Chevy Pickup & is currently doing a frame off restoration on his dream car: a '68 Dodge Charger.

I definitely have a stable of cars that marks me as an L.A. dude but I lean more towards subtle automotive connections like the Meister Driver Handaufzig. The dial harks back to when Junghans made guages for automobiles.

I had a 25 year love affair with a 1974 Beetle. It broke my heart to let it go. But no space and creeping infirmity made me pass it on......... Now its just my old Honda and my 72 BMW R60/5. Though for how much longer I don't know.

·

Because people who love watches and automobiles share a common trait - we love the art of complicated engineering and beautiful contours. ♡

·

Hmmm, Well I'm a watch guy but also a Porsche guy..So far, other then the first edition circa 1978 porsche design Chrono I have no watches associated with Porsche brand or any other car brand.

I work as a mechanic at a classic car restoration shop in Finland. My daily driver is a Peugeot 406 v6 and here's my summer car:

I also have a -77 Mini. In my job I get to drive all kinds of vintage cars (Jaguars, Daimlers, Bentleys, Rolls Royces and many non Brittish cars) Today's wruw was a -92 Daimler Double Six. I try to match my watch to the car I'm driving.

·

Vintage car pick: Studebaker Golden Hawk

More contemporary: Aston Martin Vanquish, Rolls Royce Dawn, Dodge Challenger Hellcat. I really do like the Mustang Shelby GT-500

As for collaborations, they can give birth to technologically amazing, but ugly abominations like Hublot's Bugatti watch. I'd sell that so fast, time on your watch would move backwards.

As for the cars I mentioned, I'd totally rock an F-91W while driving those.

·

I'm really not into cars but my first car was a little Renaud 5 and I loved that car so much! I feel that cars unfortunately these days almost all look the same it's a little sad except of course from ultra expensive sports cars but with the price of gas and pollution it's not something I'm into for years.

I have a black 2021 Hyundai elantra and it takes me to point A to point B and it's low maintenance and very affordable so I can buy more watches... Wait....

Oh well I love cars!! 😅

Here’s a few I’ve had.

I don’t have pics of Camaro SS or Corvette on my phone but they were fun too. They are all gone now. Here is my current ride.

I bought a blue Tissot V8 to go with my blue Jaguar V8

I'm very salty with the car/dealership business. So to me a car is a utility tool. This is my car nothing fancy just to get me around I just upgraded trims to get leather seats I hate cleaning the cloth seats.

I do used to hangout with car people and got tons of pics of nice cars:

Ferrari Enzo

Lambo Diablo

Lambo Miura

Bunch of random Bugattis

I don't think this one needs intro

Some of the nice car that I like just like watches I enjoy all cars. Muscle, JDM, KDM, Low Riders, Exotics. Trucks not so much to be honest same for Panerai so trucks are Panerai I guess?

Camaro 🤤

"Brand partnerships" do not interest me at all, but cars do

I was heavily into the car scene in my 20s but am now only allowed to have one expensive hobby (blasted children). Here's my family hatchback 😅

Given how much of a handful those cobra's are supposed to be, you might be better off with a G-Shock!

Imagine how pissed off you'd be, crawling out of the wreckage, only to find you'd also dinged your VC American..

·

In terms of car/watch collabs, they are generally pretty awful. Especially Ferrari x Anything. It seems they have a 12 year old italian boy responsible for signing those things off..

Having said that, there are a couple of collaborations, which I really need to scratch an itch on:

JLC x Aston Martin: Master Hometime. They actually improved the symmetry of the dial. And there is only a very subtle set of AM wings etched below the JLC logo. It's also got a pretty bombproof movement. I will own one of these at some point.

Image

And I've always wanted an IWC/Porsche Design compass watch..

Image

I think they'd go well with my two cars:

Image

Triumph GT6 mkII 1968 - Sadly sold..

Image

Landrover Defender 110 - Recent acquisition

The E30s and E46s obviously get all the love, but the e36 was my childhood era of M3 as I was getting into cars for the first time. You definitely wouldn't let your daughter out with someone driving one of these badboys.

It's not a GTi. It's a cj with a smaller engine. (was 1.1l but I put a 1.4l in it)
