Do you guys have watch friends? I can't seem to get any😅

I have purchased watches for my best friend, and friend from high school I'm close with and a now ex girlfriend but none of them have really been given and it feels so lonely when I get excited about watches and no one around me cares. I suppose that's why I got this app? Just curious what your watch friend circles are like!

I love that for us😂

·

None…make new friends and go to meet ups.

·

Sadly no. Most I know don't wear a watch or wear an Apple Watch.

THIS!

Man you guys make me sad :-D I can share my passion with my friends even without them being watch „nerds“ themselves. But I can really recommend a wc meetup, after participating in my first one, I found a lot more like minded folks, which is so refreshing.

I don't try to force it on anyone and wouldn't buy a watch as a gift for someone unless I knew they specifically wanted one. What has worked for me is to join a watch club and participate in forums. I now have a few friends who enjoy what I do. It wasn't forced and there is genuine enthusiasm.

For me it's not about forcing. I just have had the spread income that they don't to spend on it and they have seemed interested but just not in the same way I am.

No just you guys 🤗

I need a better reason than just because. But to each his own.

My brother is my #1 watch friend; he got me into this hobby. While I don’t have other watch friends in person, this app is a great outlet. It’s always fun to find a watch person in the wild - could be a coworker, client or perfect stranger. I commented on a client’s BB41 and now we wrist check each other. Met a stranger at a family gathering and noticed his Ripley, chatted about watches for an hour. They are out there!

I have a couple watch friends, but they’ve moved away to other parts of the country.

Batman has no friends!

·

not really, but i managed to convert 2-3 people's in my circle to get interested in watch lol. now they have a small collection of wristwatch

My wife isn't massively into watches but she has a few Swatches a couple of Citizens and a lovely mother of pearl Tissot. I'm glad she supports my hobby. One lad in my office is into watches a little and was saving for a BB58 but decided to upgrade his car instead. No one else I know is into watches and most wouldn't know the difference between a quartz and a mechanical. The odd time I might spot someone with a PRX and saw someone with a MoonSwatch recently. I'd need to get a plane to get to a Swatch store.

·

Most my friends don’t wear watches. They wear smart watches.

I have a colleague who I talked to, but he already had his exit watch long time ago. I mostly chat about watch straps combinations, and my purchases.

·

No. The only time my friends get excited is when they show me their new Apple Watch. My friend Andy showed off a new titanium bracelet. That's it.

·

Everyday i wear a different Rolex homage to work. Not once has anyone asked me “Is that a Rolex”. If i can’t get the question asked with a homage why buy the real thing?

·

All by myself too.

·

I'm an avid gun collector and shoot clays regularly. I have that in common with friends. Watches however are my thing alone, they don't get it. Thank goodness for like minded addicts on WC!

·

Nope . . . Other people think I’m insane . . . And real world watch meet up folks don’t have enough in common with me for an actual friendship beyond the hobby.

Id want the legacy and the just the value that they give. If you don't wanna pay the price then don't but if you do like what the company wants to give its customers like me personally I think it's worth it. Just a thought though.

I do have a one friend. He is a big Patek fan. But all my other friends aren't really wstch people

·

Most of the time I buy or sell a watch to / from an enthusiast (as opposed to a dealer) they become a friend of sorts. Mostly online interactions but it’s good to connect with enthusiasts. Often if I see something I think they’ll like I’ll send them a link.

·

Same bro, I can’t help but think it’s because apart from watches my values and interests vastly differ from the rest of the average watchfam enjoyer

Yes and no. My closest watch friends live abroad so noone really close to me. What makes the watch hobby slightly complicated at times is the spread in the price of watches, which in turn leads to people in different stages of life, different levels of wealth. Whilst many watch guys appreciate watches from different price bands, my experience is that collectors/enthusiasts in the "higher echeleons" lets say of the watch hobby tend to be wealthy (almost a prerequisite), and not interested in the more "enthusiast" brands. The opposite can be true ofcourse, where enthusiasts just starting out, younger collectors, may currently have zero interest in your Philip Dufours or Voutileinen but may be eyeing the Tissot PRX next. My issue and why I frequent forums is I cant find a watch guy at "my sort of enthusiasm/experience" in a broad sense. I know super wealthy older guys who are obviously too busy to "have a chat over coffee" or people just starting out and want to know how to get a Rolex Sub at retail....Not easy.

·

I guess I'm lucky, my best friend is really into watches, he has been collecting for fat longer than me (and has nicer pieces too).

But at the same time he's a football fan, and I don't care at all about that.😅

I feel lucky enough to be the one person who spend "big" money on watches that I know. And my most expensive watch is worth $1700.

I once met someone into watches at a coffee shop on a trip. He was like, "we should hang out sometime!" And I had to tell him I was only visiting... Sad. It's funny how a common interest can make people friends almost immediately.

I have a few coworkers that are into watches, it's fun to geek out with them from time to time.
