What is your grail watch?

I had an opportunity to try on my grail watch a couple of years ago and I fall in love with it. It is the BB58 with that black dial and that 39mm case, perfect for my wrist.

The only problem is that I don’t see me spending so much money on a watch. If one day I see it listed for 1000$ i will consider it.😂😂😂

What about you guys. What is your grail watch and do you have it? Are you satisfied with it?

Here’s my ultimate grail ( I have a couple 🤣) I will never attain this but in the definition of a grail It is a thing that is desired/ pursued or is sought after in my mind…….. ah well stop dreaming now 😉

My grail watch is the Omega Speedmaster Professional. I do not own it and I do not see me owning one soon and maybe even ever.

Similar to you, I am not willing to spend 4-5k on a watch. At the same time, I probably will not go for an homage. It is what it is, will look at it from a distance…

Grail is patek Philippe aquanaut. Want but will never have

We get these “what are your grail” threads so frequently, I should just save my response to my notepad. It will save me the trouble of searching for it. This is what I posted three days ago in a similar thread…

My grail watch would be the Bulova Lunar Pilot. Not the quartz model Bulova currently sell, but the actual watch that was worn on the surface of the moon in 1971 (my birth year). It’s a grail because it’s an actual watch that exists, and I could technically afford at the last auction price it sold at by cashing out retirement savings. But, the current, owner would need to put the watch up for sale, the price would need to be for less than my total net worth, there’s no way I am going to sacrifice my financial well being for a watch, and there’s no way I could convince my wife to sacrifice her financial well being for a watch.

So while it’s technically within the realm of possibility for me to get that watch, it’s so highly unlikely that it may as well be impossible. Again, it’s not just the money, but it is also the availability of a one-of-a-kind watch. Even if I won the lottery, I couldn’t buy it if the owner doesn’t want to sell it.

Hopefully will be mine this year

My grail is the Philippe Dufour Simplicity with a guillouche dial in 37mm.

I think I will not even be able to see one in person in my life.

·

With all the respect, I haven’t seen a post about this subject since I’ve signed up on the app. I hope one day you have the opportunity to get that watch.

·

Personally, I don’t think grail watches exist.

·

A grail watch supposed to be something so unobtainable it will never happen. If you worked 5 extra hours a week you would have this watch within a few months to a year

Not worth it. Maybe this means it is not a grail watch? Maybe I just like it but not enough to do everything to get it?

Ok with, even if it means that I would not have a grail watch which is perfectly fine…

I do not have a grail watch.

Got mine!

“Grail” is a pretentious jargon word watch collectors like to throw around to make themselves sound knowledgeable or “on the inside”. The fact that no-one seems to be able to agree on what it actually means just shows what a useless and pompous term it is.

·

Right now it’s a reverso. But once I get that done it’ll be something else.

·

Grail is an Explorer I but you should absolutely get the BB58.

Depends how one uses the term grail. If using it in the highest stakes sense of the word, i.e. an unattainable watch that I lust after but am unlikely to ever have, I think it'd be the Seiko SSASS Alpinist SBCJ023. There were only 500 made, and it's a high accuracy quartz (aka minimal servicing, no resetting) with a true GMT function and a gorgeous turquoise / teal sunray dial. I have seen them used for £3500 which perhaps one day I might be able to afford but I struggle to justify the amount for a watch whose build quality etc are probably not worth it (the non-limited black and white versions can be found for under £1000 used). I think if I had this I would be content with wearing just this watch everyday for the rest of my life. Again, I think so. (I prefer number indices so it's not quite perfect IMO).

But in terms of a watch I aspire to that's out of my reach now but hopefully won't always be, that'd have to be a Grand Seiko: either the limited edition 25th anniversary SBGN007,

the limited edition 140th anniversary SBGN023,

or the SBGM247 (though it is 14.4mm thick)

A few months ago my answer would have been the Tudor Black Bay 58 in bronze or even a Rolex Explorer, but I am in a real Grand Seiko mood these days. I don't have much of an emotional connection to Swiss watchmaking, whereas I love Japan and I think if I were to spend a lot of money on a watch, a Grand Seiko (particularly their more reasonably priced 9F quartz watches) would feel quite special to me.

·

I don't have a grail. I'm happy with what I have in my collection.

·

I’ve used “Grail” as a perfect watch for me. For example my favourite watch for a few years ago was the Tissot Gentleman, now is the Tudor and so on and so forth.

·

Absolutely unattainable grails in this life or the next

..anything by ALS (the triple split or the Cabaret in particular), and a Patek perpetual calendar... aah well, a man can ogle... :D

·

5326g please.

My grail watch changes as I do. But generally I return to dreaming of owning either a datograph or Odysseus

·

Attainable grails - Grand Seiko SLGA 019 Lake Suwa or a Glashutte Originals PanomaticLunar Green dial.

I don't think too much about unattainable watch grails, but possibly a Breget Tradition 7097 or a GS SLGT001 Kodo.

Sorta grails that constantly come back to wanting...a Seiko x Giugiaro 7a28-7000, aka, the Ripley.

·

Patek 3970. Absolute perfection of a watch

·

For me it’s either the JLC Master Ultra Thin PC or the Patek Philippe 3940 PC
