What’s your take on engraving your watch? 🖋

For many, it’s often a way of keeping certain memories or important moments close while also personalizing the watch. Like engraving wedding dates, anniversaries, or children's birthdays. Others may feel like it disrupts the clean look of the watch.

Is it personally something you have done? And what did you engrave? Let’s hear it! 🤩

I would but haven’t done it. I do think it makes the watch more special.

·

I haven't had it done, but I would under the right circumstances. It would have say more than "Love, Dad" or something like that. It would have to be more personal like "You were adopted".

·

My wife stole the watch that I was wearing in the hospital when my twins were bro and had the time of their birth engraved in the back.  I love it.

·

I haven't done it but definitely would. I consider it a type of customization, and I believe customizing a watch makes you want to keep it much more.

One thing I don't like about the Speedmaster is the case back. Would be cool to be able to engrave it. Something I think Rolex does well.

Wife bought me a wooden watch & had "We are the worst." put on the back. LOL

It's a sarcastic running joke in our family.

·

When is well done it makes the watch FANTASTIC and UNIQUE. Look this example here:

I have never heard of this being done except to personalize a gift.

Obviously it is a death blow to resale or collector value. I have an retirement watch from a family member, and the engraving was the initial appeal. Now I forget it's even there. As with those silly display case backs, who looks at the back of a watch?

Anyway, this is the sort of thing that makes perfect sense for sensible people that own a single object for a single purpose and keep it all their lives. Crazy modern people, not so much.

When UNDONE customized a watch for me, they did this on the caseback 🕵️‍♂️

i want tot get my daughter another watch for her High school graduation and I want to engrave it but she’s so darn picky on which watch so I can’t just surprise her with one

Engravings are awesome when they carry a story! Love the engraved Reverso pieces.

This watch looks fantastic btw, why didn't you clean the fingerprints :/

I have a watch that has both, actually -- an engraved display back.  And you know what?  I love it, and do look at it every time before putting it on.  It brings a smile to my face, doubly so because of the sentimentality of the engraving (my wife had it done for my first ever Father's Day), and the joy of seeing the movement ticking away.

that your a true OG

I kinda like the idea of what Norqain has done with their "Norqain plate". It's a "plate" which is attached via screws on the left hand side of the case that allows for custom engraving to personalize a watch. By default, the watch comes with a plate that is engraved with the brand name. Since the plate is screwed into the watch, it could be easily replaced with a different plate in the future. This allows for some minor personalization which doesn't necessarily impact the resale value of the watch.

I know that lots of people seem to think of this as gimicky, and feel that it ruins the look of the watch. I think that it serves to offer some visual interest to an otherwise slab sided case, and helps counter balance the crown on the right hand side.

Tatoo a watch! Blasphemy! 😀 jus kidding

·

Adding proof to my assertion that the back of a watch is out of sight, out of mind, I had this and forgot all about it.

Being on a NATO strap didn't help.

That’s beautiful, man. ❤️

Personally I don't see a problem with it. I'm building myself another watch and will probably have it engraved on the case back.                                         I bought this Steve Zissou case back for my Vostok Amphibia.cant wait to get it on.
