How Long Does a Honeymoon Last?

(The muse for my question)

We’ve all eagerly anticipated a recent watch purchase to arrive at our mailbox or looked forward to taking home the one we just bought. It’s a fun time—the proverbial kid on Christmas Day situation. We sport it on wrist and take way too many pictures of the watch like a crazed fan of some movie icon. We know it’s kind of ridiculous but it’s our hobby or passion so… no big deal. Eventually, the honeymoon expires and we go back to normal… or at least what we watch nuts consider normal.

My question is, how long is your typical watch honeymoon? Has there been a watch you’ve been especially smitten over where the honeymoon lasted far longer than usual or expected? Conversely, what was the shortest honeymoon phase you’ve experienced?

We look at watches all the time so i'd say 15 minutes

I think it depends on the watch..   If I but something fun like a G-Shock, maybe a week or two..  But the ones with staying power include a Grand Seiko and a Seiko Turtle..  I keep those watches on heavy rotation..   Currently waiting on a Seiko Capt Williard which I know is going to be a long  - long honeymoon

So far, the Honeymoon hasn't ended but I started late and my collection is still relatively small (5-6, depending on whether I claim my son's Timex quartz field watch as my own/ which I guess I should since I wear it and he moved out leaving it behind so finders keepers).

I keep rotating the watches I wear (including during the day) and I never tire of looking down at them which my wife often points by telling me "stop constantly admiring your watch".

The constant honeymoon is probably because I don't have any doubles yet so there is no competition in any category (i.e., I have one of each of the following: GMT, Chrono, Diver/ beater, Field, Dress and Everyday).

I'm looking at a nicer Diver or Field watch next (to get a better option than my beater dive watch and my "son's" field watch) so once I have a choice for these, maybe the honeymoon will wear off for the current ones in my collection.

Beautiful Aqua Terra by the way.

For the longest time the "honeymoon" period was short lived.  I picked up a 3861 Speedy and a ceramic/titanium 300M last year and couldn't be happier.  I'm guessing I finally have a combo that checks all my boxes.  Before these two I'd be bored or looking at another after a couple of weeks.

Provided they actually get a honeymoon period.

shortest is 5 mins - Talis 25J automatic dress. It’s lovely but literally wound it up, set date and time, went ”that’s nice”, put it on, ”yep, not too shabby, I’ll wear that later”, took it off, in the box, not worn for 8 years. Won’t sell it.

longest - 7 days for a Gasworks custom Citizen, Cooper Pathfinder, and 6 for a CWC G10 1991 issue.

I’m still pretty new to this hobby, but so far the longest was the BB58. In fact, the only reason it ended was the introduction of the SPB143 to the collection. That one blindsided me, and wouldn’t come off the wrist for weeks and still gets regular wear. In fact, I’m wearing it today.

About a month I'd say, for the very ecstatic feeling/super careful with the watch. I still admire the watches but I think the careful factor drops significantly after that.

·

I haven't worn the same watch three days in a row for nearly three years.  My honeymoons are two days a week for several weeks.

I relate to this completely

Funny enough, my blue BB58 was the shortest honeymoon I’ve ever had. Guess my expectations were so high that it was doomed to underwhelm.

The BB58 was my first higher-end watch of any kind, so I was quite impressed (and it's still one of my favorites). But I've had others that I had high hopes for, that just didn't do it once they were on the wrist. It can be hard to tell what you'll actually connect with.

It’s a funny thing because I objectively say it’s an attractive watch and would recommend it, but at the end of the night… I’m not trying to take her home with me.

About 3 months of regular wear , I folow the rule of: If the watch makes you feel like you want to dress up or try a bit harder ...its proberbly a keeper :)

2.237 x Y

Where Y is length of the honeymoon period with your spouse and multiplied by 2.237 because your watch doesn’t talk.

This professor appreciates you quantifying things so precisely. Love it.

I'm kinda having a honeymoon just with the thought of that Aqua Terra.

·

I'd re-marry that Aqua Terra.

Sounds like my wife!  She is so over this watch addiction!  lol

I have multiple honeymoons.  I can get a new watch and wear it for a day and not wear it for another month or so, then all of a sudden I pick it up and its like I just bought it.  I usually wear a different watch each day and due to the fact I have far too many, I don't wear some of them that often so sometimes when it's their turn, I feel like I have a brand new watch and the love affair starts all over.

It doesn't sound like too many. It sounds just right. Looks like I have been doing this wrong and should go ahead not just get another watch but get more watches.

It depends. It depends on when the next watch arrives.

They have ointments for that, haha.

·

i see watches as accessories. So depending on what I wear and also everytime i change straps on my watches I feel like I have sent them for plastic surgery and come back another person for me to have good clean fun 🤣

·

I absolutely love the AT small seconds in that colour, but I prefer it on the rubber for contrast.

That given, I had a call from my AD saying my BB58 black on steel bracelet arrived, so I grasped the opportunity as my one luxury watch to supplement my Hamiltons and Seiko's. And cheaper by quite a few thousand to boot. If I had the funds, I'd own them both. Eventually, I  probably get bored with whichever watch I wear, however my Hammy Khaki Field 38mm Auto and Sarb033 I never get bored with

IF WATCHES WERE KIDS WE'D HAVE HUNDREDS!
