What watch surprised you when you put it on?

Be it one that really let you down after you lusted after it, or pleasantly surprised you after you tried it.

For me, I was shocked how much I like gold watches on my wrist. In photos online they just look tacky and gaudy, but once I get it on my wrist it looks great with my complexion.

  • Alpina seastrong heritage, had a proper watch crush on this, lusted after it for months. But with white hands and cream dial makes it nearly illegible in most lights(still like it though, my dressiest diver)

I had totally dismissed the Omega Speedmaster Skywalker X-33 based on its published dimensions, expecting it to be waaaay to big for me. When I tried one on, I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't wear anything close to what the dimensions suggest.

I was quite disappointed with my Wise Adamascus

Ordered it waited 6 months for it, then when I put it on I found it boring and hard to read because of the dial and hand colours.

One that I was pleasantly surprised by was my Tissot PRC200

I was worried it would be too big but it feels great on.

I don’t like the way any of the seiko 5 models fit. They feel like they are as thick as they are long and wide. Like wearing cube on my wrist. Love the way they look but never fit right.

Too many to list for ones that disappointed after looking great in online photos.

One I loved that I thought I wouldn’t was a TT Rolex Sky Dweller.

It's weird, isn't it?!

I loved it on my wrist; and even my wife loved it on me!

But i will add that i was pleasantly surprised by the wearability of the Seiko Prospex Safari. It is an extremely comfortable strap, and wears just right. Not too tight, not too loose. And in my eyes is a pretty little watch to boot

Indeed. I'm blown away by the accuracy. I set my PE1 timer when I got the watch - it now shows 234 days, and the watch is 3 seconds off. That works out to < 5 seconds per year. It's my first titanium watch, and I love how the light weight makes it super comfortable on the wrist.

I am usually disappointed by watches when I finally see them in person, but there have been a few exceptions. The biggest one was the IWC Ingenieur 357002. This watch looks way better in person. It wowed me when I tried it on. After trying on a bunch of different watches all day, this is the one I couldn't get out my head and eventually bought.

I have one of each. I went into an Omega Boutique about a year and a half ago wanting to look at the Aqua Terra. It is a watch that looks amazing in pictures/video, but putting it on left me pretty meh. While I was there I figured I would try on a speedmaster which I had always written off as too large. Putting it on that was not the case at all and I fell in love. I was finally able to pick one up a couple of months ago and I couldn’t be happier

The ISL-68. I loved the fully lumed great wave dial and I always wanted a mini turtle. What surprised me is how thick top heavy it felt on my wrist.

for me the IWC Mark XVIII petit prince....it looks rather dull and nothing special on pictures...but once on the wrist, man, it´s just....wow

Thanks I really like it

One watch that’s disappointEd me has to be the GS cherry blossom. Looks amazing in pictures but the titanium case and bracelet felt jangly and cheap.

As I was recently starting to get into watches, and didn’t really know much about mechanical watches yet, I bought this on Etsy. I absolutely loved the wire lugs and the true 24-hour dial. After a little back and forth messages with the seller, I found out it was a Chinese moment but that there was absolutely no information on it.

After waiting 6 months or more it finally arrived. The strap was even more disappointing than I had expected, and the watch itself is almost impossible to set with any accuracy. It has hacking, but pulling the crown out doesn’t always stop the second hand without moving the minute hand in either direction, and pushing the crown back in always throws the second hand off the mark regardless whether or not you account for the behavior. Also, the whole thing feels light like it’s made of lesser quality steel.

I had always thought that two tone watches are neither here nor there. But when I tried on the bluesy, I was pleasantly surprised how good it looks on my wrist. Now, I am absolutely a big fan of two-tones. ❤️
