Which watch do you like the GS or Tag

Which watch of the two do you like? The GS SBGX341 or the Titanium TAG HEUER Aquaracer Quartz WBP1180.BF0000. I like specific elements of each watch. The Tag is nice and thin, has a quartz solar movement, iconic bezel shape, is very thin, and has a nice dial. The finishing on the GS is superb, in house movement, high accuracy, and insane specifications.

That Grand Seiko is 🔥

I like both of these a lot.

But they're so different from one another, I don't think it's a reasonable comparison. Different watches for different purposes. The GS would make a great daily. The Tag would make a great adventure watch.

Unfortunately, quartz wise, these days, it's hard to go against Grand Seiko (except for Citizen). In fact, for solar quartz, I feel Citizen (particularly their Eco-Drive One line) would have given poor Tag a run for your money. Don't get me wrong, that Tag is very nice. It just... can't compete with the Japanese offerings, at least movement wise.

Found an article that stated"the watch is made in collaboration with La Joux-Perret, which is owned by Citizen, the OG of solar watches. But it is a solar watch in a very TAG Heuer package, bringing with it all the design codes and history the brand is known for."

-The TAG is titanium and has an iconic case design. Below is a citizen with a great dial which was $250. Is the TAG package worth an extra zero $2500?

Image

-Its the same quandary for me regarding SINN using SW200. Below is a watch with a CSOC movement for $800 with (to me and its personal) it has a great movement and less design panache

Image

And here is a watch I have for $150 with lots of panache IMHO, Quartz, PVD Coating, and Sapphire crystal

Image

And a favorite watch of mine with an SW200 is Oris Divers 65 which I bought NOS at a discount.

For me they would both be grab and go quartz watches with decent water resistance.

They are similarly priced. Owning a GS I have to say that the watch is perfection with a conservative bias. Perhaps a less expensive TAG might be in order. This is another watch that is on the watch list for $319 at Long Island Watches. I keep on adding Citizen watches.

I voted the Grand Seiko because I used to own it.

Image

I loved it so much until I didn't, and then I sold it. I love the dial and everything on the face of the dial, but I think it was the angular shape of the lugs that ended up not sitting well with me. Also, the fact that every time I looked at it 5 new dings or scratches would appear especially on the bezel.

·

Personally I prefer the dimensions of the Aquaracer.

However the recent discontinuation of the Cartier Solarbeat makes me feel that GS has more mature support for the 9F movement in the long-term.

At this price range I'd still take my chances on the Aquaracer, and just enjoy the more wearable proportions.

look at that lume. It's the case shape that is holding me back. Also there is a $1000 difference between the boutique and Sakura.

Alternately, I like the TAG case shape and bezel (but not the price)

Which watch of the two do you really like? Go for that. It's you who will wear it, not us. 😉

·

For a sleek, elegant exceptional craftsmanship timepiece choose the Grand Seiko SBGX341. If you prefer a sporty, durable watch get the Titanium TAG Heuer Aquaracer Quartz. Go for the one you really like 😊

·

It’s a tricky one but I pick tag in this case. the photo you have is of the Solargraph which has the movement from lejouxperret from the Citzen group. The one area the tag wins is the bracelet and micro adjust that it has.

I think you misunderstood me.

Citizen produces some very nice Eco-Drive for about $1k-5k (I.e. "entry luxury" segment). The Eco-Drive One i mentioned costs between $3.5-$5.5k. They are as expensive as Grand Seiko 9F.

My opinion is that Citizen EcoDrive delivers very good value, even if their prices ain't what usually at the mall. Tag one is nice and all, but you get titanium, satellite sync, moon phase, and world time from Citizen for the same money.

·

I was close to pulling the trigger on the Tag a while back, but it felt like more of a novelty/occasional watch than something I’d wear regularly. I don’t know enough about the quality of the movement, and I found the bezel is a bit weird when you actually want to use it off centre..

The Gs on the other hand is a huge step up in quality and adaptability.

Whilst the Tag is fun, I’d go for the GS every day.

That Tissot is gorgeous. This is maybe a rookie question but what does "PVD" mean?

·

GS all the way. The Tag is nice and has this stealth look to it, tough, durable and sporty. It screams go on an adventure with me!

This specific GS, on the other hand, has one of the most unique case shapes I’ve ever seen. I’m in love 🥰. And it seems to be a great all rounder. Definitely a do it all type of watch. I’m considering the SBGX343 myself as I’m not a fan of white dials in general and the orange elements of the SBGX341 in particular.

But these HAQ Seikos have great value propositions. If you’re interested in HAQ in general, but that maybe have a dressier look check out Citizen’s Chronomaster line. The AQ4020-54y is a thing of beauty and has a white dial made of washi paper.

·

Tough question! I can't help you here 😀

·

Easy choice for me.

I’d probably just go for the non titanium quartz aquaracer. Colours are very impressive in person.

ahh. I have not looked at the high end Citizen. Thanks, I will look in that direction.

Its a thin film coating that is very durable. The "antique" look of the Tissot pictured is PVD. Below is a more expensive Longines with a PVD Bezel. Me, I think the visodate provides quite a bit of value for money.

The GS pictured has a black color-way

This is the "highest end" citizen I have. A JDM citizen with a nice silver lacquer dial. At $700 you are paying for the dial and not much more in terms of design and finishing.

TAG have links with Citizen, they are the current kings of Quartz so I would not discount them, so I think it comes down to design and which you like the most

·

Subjective I know, but, I am not a fan of Tag's designs right now. They just feel juvenille and ostentatious.

The Grand Seiko design, to me, seem timeless and will age very well. The Tag not so much.

For what it's worth I agree. That TAG in particular looks quite childish.
