New mountain glacier Alpinist

This is the controversial non-limited Mountain Glacier Alpinist from a few years ago. I received a restock notification from Masters in Time, with the note that this was part of the last production batch before it would be discontinued. They actually have it for a very reasonable price of about $750 and I couldn’t say no.

I sorely regret selling my sarb017 Alpinist and I have been dying to get an Alpinist back in the watch box. In my opinion this is the best looking modern variant. I also could have gone for the white dial/silver indices version. Now to find a good after market bracelet as the stock one is crap. Anyone have a bracelet recommendation?

Excellent watch. Been debating grabbing this one or finding a deal on the 089, but they are so over priced (the 89, not the 197 or 199).

Lovely watch!

Had good luck with UncleStraps.com. Has a bit of a Seiko focus, sometimes referred to as Uncle Seiko. I’d check there first.

I agree there, if I ever have to take it for service I may have it taken off. The OG sarb017 was the best.

Nice! Strapcode makes bracelets specifically for the Alpinist:

Very nice watch! What’s the controversy with this watch?

Very nice watch! What’s the controversy with this watch?

So, Seiko made a limited edition mountain glacier watch, the SPB199. 2020 units were made, numbered on the caseback and they came with two straps. It sold for I believe $1,000 new. Several months later they released a non limited edition model with the same exact mountain glacier dial, the same model that you see here, SPB197. It came with the bracelet and sold for significantly cheaper. The collectors who purchased the original limited model were pissed! I do not condone the way Seiko exploited everyone in this situation. However it’s been several years and I couldn’t pass on the price.

I’m a fan of the single crown, non-internal bezel variants.

Such a nice shade of blue on the Alpinist. Love your khaki rubber strap too

I wore my Alpinist on an Uncle Seiko president for a long time and loved it. Strapcode bracelet was too chunky for me but I have a 6.25 inch wrist.

I have the Super-O Boyer bracelet from strapcode. Decent quality and it matches the finish of the watch. Very happy with it 🙂

I’ve never seen this variant. Absolutely a stunner
