The original reason why I like mechanical watches is they can run without a battery. It took me a while to figure out how it works technically. I pref...
commented onIWC brand strength over Rolex & Omega·
If you are looking for a watch with a real "in-house" movement, the entry-level IWC watches may be not the best choice compared to its competitors. But they do offer different aesthetics, especially the pilot collection.
BTW, I really respect their marketing strategy. Almost every brand invests its marketing resources in its new dive watches in the past two years. They are all following the hype. Did IWC do the same thing? No, they are marketing their pilot's watches all the time. I think there should be more brands who can insist on their own characteristics instead of following the trend. Our watch world needs more diversity! Based on this IWC really did a good job here!
That was impressive! Never thought I could witness somebody's life from the perspective of a watch collecting journey. Thanks for your sincere sharing! And wish you all the best!
That would be an interesting experience to trade watch like this. But nope, I will keep my speedy if I were you since it's the first big watch. And the design of speedy is timeless, the GS maybe not.
Hey Bob, I don't think you did anything wrong. I had a bad experience in the Omega store as well. It was my first time walking into a luxury watch store. I asked the staff to hand me a Speedmaster and a Bond watch. She handed them over and then do nothing. I know nothing about watches at that time. So I asked why there is a valve on the Bond watch and what is it for. She answered me "You don't need to know, it is useless when you wear this watch". I showed interest in the watches and I want her to explain the function of the watch. Her answer made me so awkward and I didn't know what to say then.
Although I think Omega deliver good products, I will not buy them in an Omega store nowadays. A lot of SA don't even into watches, they just treat their job as a way to make money. They have no different from the staff in a supermarket or a grocery.
commented onReflections on the Rolex Waitlist (or How the Rolex Waitlist Saved the Watch Hobby)·
Good point. But pls let me do some supplements from the perspective of a watchmaking company. The requirements of Rolex watches run much faster than the productivity of Rolex. I don't think Rolex has foreseen the dramatic increase in market requirements in the past years. It's not easy to perfectly predict the huge requirements changes. They have just decided to expand their production quantity until this year. In other words, I don't think Rolex meant to set the restricted waitlist policy. It is the way they had to do it, no other choices.
On the other hand, let's say if the market gets as many Rolex watches as they want, it will reduce people's desire for Rolex as well. The unreachable things always get more desires. If every Rolex watch can be easily acquired from an instant visit to Rolex ads, I believe people will not treat Rolex watches as precious anymore. They will turn their eyes to other watch brands soon.
Why I bought this Swatch? I admit that I started looking at the lineup of Swatch first since they released the MoonSwatch. That was a cool move betwee...
