SMP 300M - 2004

There is a bit of a story to this one....

I had been on the lookout for a neo vintage SMP 41mm Automatic for about 6 months. A few months ago this 2004 version came up for sale on a resellers Website. It was fairly well priced with full box and papers.

It was a bit of a gamble. Not being able to site the watch however the reseller assumed me it was a little battle scarred but in good working order. So I pulled the trigger.

It arrived, The Box smelt like it had been stored in moth balls, the card holder was falling apart and the watch was in pretty good nick for its age.

With no service history, I immediately contacted my friends at the Bondi Omega Boutique to get their thoughts. The next day I dropped it in for a full service.

2 months on and it is back as good as new. $1030 for the Service. Here is what was was done.

  • New crown

  • New HEV

  • worn out movement parts replaced

  • new seals

  • case back cleaned

  • bracelet cleaned

  • pressure tested

It now has 2 years Warranty as well - so worth the money for the service? Absolutely!

I couldn't be more happier. It is now a brilliant watch. Currently it is keeping 0 /+2 secs per day (it sits on a stand overnight). And the service at the Bondi Boutique is phenomenal.

This model is a lot slimmer than the current version. The 1mm smaller case and slimmer profile makes it a joy to wear.

Beautiful watch. I have a very similar story. I picked up a 2005 version from a Japanese second hand store a little over a year. With the exchange rate at the time with the USD I got it for a steal. I don't think the watch had ever been serviced, it was a little banged up and running 20 seconds slow a day, so I sent it into Omega for a full service. They changed out a lot a parts, including the dial, it was somehow cracked. Since I have had it back it is in tip top shape running about +1 to +3 seconds a day.

what a fantastic story. How good are the old SMP's?

It is my favorite SMP. I would take the 2531.80 over any of the new models. The best part is how thin it is.

I did exactly the same for my midsize 36mm when I bought it. Second hand, 1993 vintage. BTW, old Omega boxes do “fall apart”. Mine is exactly the same as you described yours.

From a fellow Sydneysider... good choice. Although I'll be moving mine on soon, I've loved owning it. And getting the full monty of a service upfront is super smart.

You're gonna love it. In fact, I can tell you already do!

There have been quite a few Seamasters of this era popping up on WC recently. Such fantastic watches and incredible value at the moment. I’ve been looking for one too and a couple of weeks ago put a deposit on a Peter Blake 2254.50.

Still waiting for it as it’s in service but hopefully shouldn’t be too long now.

Agree, the color is a surprisingly great match

@watch.girl.life I used to own the 36mm version many years ago…although I eventually let it go to replace it with the 2252 Seamaster, that wave dial is a joy to look at! Something about the texture always caught my eye! And there was no other dial like it on the market. Wear it in good health!

Congratulations! I also love the 2531/2551.80. To me, it's the best looking Seamaster and the most capable Omega.

I hope you enjoy it for a long time!
