Always started, never finished

I posted this topic on my IG this morning. @watch_girl_life

The twists and turns of the #watchenthusiast

The CIO at my work say: “Always started, never finished”. I think that’s me.

My trip down the windy watch collecting road has definitely changed. I feel like chasing the “grail” is only a pipe dream. Who know I might already have it? I’m not sure.

So what next ? Definitely unclear but I do know miss the one in the middle ☝️.

Are you always started never finished? Do you think about your grail, your watch collecting road, where the next road might take you?

Weirdly, I feel pretty finished! Totally relaxed about my collection. Like this...

Like, I don't really feel any urgency about buying any more watches.

Maybe it's just old age? Maybe this means that the cold, icy grip of death is just right around the corner, and the first telltale sign is a lack of desire?

Have a buddy who reached this crazy zen state. He said that he'd completely lost all desire for anything. Truly at one with the universe, having met Siddhartha Gautama's dictates.... Then, he discovered that his body had stopped making testosterone, and got on supplemental hormones, and went out and bought a new house and a new car, etc., etc.

Similar to @HotWatchChick69 I am pretty content, do not get me wrong I have a list I would like to eventually add:

  • Seiko Discus Burger

  • VC Overseas Dual Time (prev gen)

  • Breitling Pan Am

  • GS SBGH271

  • IWC XVIII Le Petite Prince

  • Lorier Zephyr - Red

  • Patek 5270P (unlikely long shot)

  • Chaykin Joker

  • A Moser, still undecided on which

  • Direnzo DRZ 04

  • Habring Monopusher

  • A custom Dornbluth

Those are my watch list pieces, but with few exceptions, I am not necessarily itchy at the moment to pull the trigger. If the right opportunity comes up, perhaps, but for now I am good with what’s in the boxes. I reserve the right to back track on that if I get the right alert. :-).

Is contentment equals death? Is that why some of us or most us keeps finding new hobbies, watches, cars, Pokémon cards?! Lego?!…to postpone the inevitable ? … this makes me Sad 🤯😢 damn you @HotWatchChick69 why are you making me think and sad… I need a drink…

Do I see a Montblanc or two at the bottom of this picture? 👀👀👀

2 Speedys and a Seamaster…I’d be finished cause my wife would have murdered me by then.

I agree, always started, never finished. Although I do appreciate where I’m at in my collection, I think it will always be evolving. I enjoy swapping some in and out, at least for right now. In the beginning I wanted one of every style before I realized I’m not crazy about every style, now I’m looking to have a little bit more fun with my collection getting away from the neutrals, we’ll see what’s next

For me it is a journey and I take it that way. Circumstances change over time ( preferences, budget, knowledge ... ) and thus our collection changes too. I assume I will never end with this journey even if being content with current state of collection as I enjoy it too much. The hunt, exploring, educating ... is the reason I persist and for grail I have "unobtanable" watch ( ALS Datograph ). Like in life and business you strive for the goal that seems unreachable but advance toward it every day, perptually improving from where you were/are.

Why do you store your coffee next to your watches?

Why do you store your coffee next to your watches?

I don’t. Just use a little tin of beans for props.

Very nice list

There are a couple in my collection I know I'd rather sell a body part off before thinking of letting go. Livers grow back right? 😅

Then there are some that I go back and forth every day about selling off. Not for lack of being great watches but they just don't have that je nais se quois, so the question of downsizing to the essentials comes into play.

·

What kind of watch box is that? Looks great. Where did you get it?

Amazing photo!
