OMEGA Speedmaster Chrono Chime

Wow, I went on YouTube while waiting for the fiancé to get ready and saw this on my feed. Haven't seen any news articles on it yet, but absolutely stunning. On the Omega website they say this is the first Chronograph minute repeater. I would have to fact check that but from the video it looks stunning.

Thoughts, opinions? Another grail?

I can't wait to see candid shots of this

EDIT:

I kept reading more an apparently the minute repeater is for the elapsed time?

WOW. I suspect that this will be brutally expensive.

Oh dear. Omega is pushing hard on Rolex it seems.

This just so doesn't get along with the spirit of the Speedy...

·

I don't understand this watch.

·

This watch is kind of silly and, as has been pointed out, doesn’t really fit what the Speedy is. But you know what?  It’s stunning. The metal, the dial, the complication…they’re all just stunning.

I don’t see how this is pushing on Rolex at all? Rolex has never been about complications, more such just about durability

Less about complications and more about brand prestige. It's more of "Look at us, look at us. We make things in precious metals too" flex. Is this PVD plated steel or gold?

Love the new movement even if the watch is a little silly (but if you think about it, all luxury watches are a bit silly).

Awesome looking watch.  But based on the specs I know it’s well beyond my price limitations.

·

Heard through the grapevine that it’s gonna be about $450K 🤦🏻‍♂️

·

Was just announced a few hours ago. I saw and article by Fratello. It’s almost 1/2 million for it.

Beautiful watch. Omega needs to update its tech and do 40mm watches now... that dial is amazing, imagine a globemaster in stell with that dial 😍

I believe they might get there eventually. Probably their idea is to get the spec/mechanism to market and then work on optimizing it.

I haven't researched it, but I have never heard of a minute repeater that tells the time of the elapsed time. I have no idea what the use it, but definitely an horological flex haha

Out of curiosity what do you define as the spirit of the Speedy?

No judgment or anything just genuinely interested as I think it is an interesting topic of conversation.

Omega flexing...

It has a diameter of 45mm, a height of 17.27mm, and a lug-to-lug of 53.3mm. Another important thing to mention is the weight of the Speedmaster Chrono Chime. It’s made entirely of 18K Sedna Gold, Omega’s alloy for rose gold. Not only are the case and bracelet made of Sedna Gold, but the movement is also made of this special alloy. It all adds up to a whopping 326.20 grams on the wrist.

Price: Around $450,000.

The Speedy was always the king of versatility and simplicity, an iconic tool watch. Apart from some moonphase and solid gold models, of course. Can you imagine the Rolex Submariner or Breitling Navitimer with an openworked minute repeater?

Personally, my opinion has changed and now I see the "Speedmaster" line being the "tour de force" for their Chronograph technology, so this falls right in line with that line of thinking.

I think I had this shift in thought when the chronoscope. I personally believed that the watch would be better fit in the deville lineup. When I re-evaluated Omega's Speedmaster lineup there is so much variety in size and styles. The only thing that is consistent between all of them is being a Chronograph. That is why I personally feel like this falls in line with the model line, but like the most impressive version of this.

I don't think the Navitimer nor Submariner fall in this category because Rolex and Breitling have purposely kept those lines original. There is no ceramic sub, but there are a few ceramic Speedmaster. There is no 100M water resistant Navitimer (from what I know) but for the speedmaster there is (Speedmaster Racing I believe? And the old '57).

I think the most extreme version of this would be the Moonswatch. Maybe not considered a Speedmaster to some, but I think it is. Just a cheap Swatch version. And in the end Omega is Swatch (Swatch Group).
