Was the Casioak the original Moonswatch?

I was wearing my casioaks after a long time and I realized that there are quite a few parallels between it and the Moonswatch! The initial excitement and scarcity (albeit at a different level no 4 figure casioaks as far as I remember), the "homage" aspect, how it was THE watch to own, and best of all it got people into Gshock who would have never otherwise thought twice about them.

Are these real parallels or do I just have too much time on my hands to think about watches😂?

the Casioak is probably Casio making light of the Royal oak where as Qmega didn't have a choice.

Lol yeah Omega was probably roped into it but at least we got some awesome watches out of it! (Once they're actually available🙃)

Yeah the new Bluetooth ones look awesome I love the all black one with the DW6900-esque pops of colors! Also I've never seen the mystic forest version before it looks really good with the orange touches, I like that it's bold yet not too bold

To answer the thread title question - no. The MoonSwatch is an official collaboration between Omega and Swatch, both of whom fall under the stewardship of the Swatch Group.
AP and Casio did not collaborate on the “CasiOak” - it’s official name is the Octagon Series, or GA/GM - 2100 - xxxxx. CasiOak is an affectionate term given to it even before launch because of the similar shape, not because of any official collaboration.

Lol yes thats all very true! I can only imagine what would have happened if AP and GShock actually collaborated😂

However my musings were more about the impact the Casioak and the Moonswatch have had on the hobby and on us as watch nuts!

It would probably look like the CasiOak, but cost twice as much.

I think the thing with the MS is what it does to the overall watch buying demographic long term. Omega are probably counting on attracting more young people with capital to the brand to try and upset the large market share that Rolex has with the current luxury watch buying demographic, or channel untapped market potential. It is too early to see if this is the case, or whether having the “street Speedy” as I like to consider it is a short term boost but fails in creating more long term Omega converts. All in all, the Swatch Group makes money, so no one loses in theory. We enthusiastic watch people don’t make up much in terms of watch brand revenue, but we are the most vocal- go figure.

I also like the 40mm GMS2100-3A

I’d have to agree. When I look at the CasiOak (any of them), I see having fun with a motif while incorporating true G-Shock DNA into the design.

As for the MS…probably an unpopular opinion, but it Looks cheap.  I’m aware that it is not an “expensive“ watch, nor is it a true omega…that said, for $110 max, you can have a truly original piece that can withstand almost anything...haven’t handled the MS but it just seems fragile.

In conclusion, I also get why the MS is h-h-hotttt right now. Thank you.
