...and now for something completely different

This hobby should be fun, right? Well here is the Hertz Beat by Furlan Marri and seconde/seconde.

I had been curious about the quality of Furlan Marri's pieces however none of the year round offerings moved me enough to pull the trigger. I've always found seconde's work interesting and playful but usually by the time I catch wind of something interesting it's already sold out. So when I saw this collaboration I felt it was a good way to check them both out.

First things first, the watch is beautiful. The printing is crisp against the glossy black dial. The textured blue minute subdial is nicely sunk and is a wonderful contrast for the seconde trademark 8 bit heart which keeps track of your elapsed minutes while the chrono is running. The handset and chrono pushers are well finished. The case comes in at 38mm in diameter and 46mm lug to lug, with some nice brushing to the mid case and a little step up to the bezel. All the details really complement each other and come together for a very cohesive look. Watch aside, I'm also a fan of the message they're trying to get across, 'quartz has a heart too'. Love my quartz tickers.

I now understand why some people are willing to pay a bit over retail for the brand, especially if you are partial to a certain color way. I'm still in the trial period with this one, but first impressions are all pretty positive so far. What do you all think? Would you add a Furlan Marri to your watch box? Is an 8bit heart on a quartz Patek homage a bridge too far? Or just the right amount of fun? Would love to hear the communities thoughts.

It's different. It almost looks fake.

The contrast between the two styles is a bit jarring. The macro view, the details are nice, but yeah quick first glance...it almost looks fake.

It's like a low res sticker has been attached to vintage design. Is a wtf moment.

Aorta just keep my opinion to myself on this one.

Interesting juxtaposition between a very traditional dial design and the contemporary heart subdial. Totally understand it can be polarizing but I like it. Live your bliss, my friend! 🎯

It’s too much of a clash for me.

Take that Minecraft thing away and it's gorgeous

I'm not even 100% sold yet. Just going to enjoy figuring this one out.

Not my cup of tea ( would be without the red & blue blemish ) just sayin…. ( no fun left in me when it comes to my wallet )

I hear ya. Black subdial, or sand matching the text, or maybe silver, would have been a little easier on the eyes.

That seconde/seconde guy is getting around nowadays. It dawns on me that the pixelated style fits well with a ticking second hand. Rigid increments and all.

He has been busy. I love the Timex 'slap' watch. So many summers jumping out of the pool to catch Adam West. But I digress. I never made the connection before but you nailed it. The pixels and the ticking quartz, it's all of the same age. Explains why it works (for some of us) when it seems like it shouldn't. Especially when you throw it on a vintage style.
