Travel and watches.

I have a 12 day trade show work trip coming up and I am having a hard time figuring out how many watches to take.  I know for set up and tear down, I will have my trusty gshock, and I plan on taking my Great White for day to day wear.  I might sneak my Sinn 556a in the roll since its an aviation show.  How many watches would you all take on a trip like this?

it depends on the occasion and outfit for me. from my experience i would bring max 3 watch in my watchroll. g shock for rough activity, diver or flieger for everyday wear, and dress watch for formal event

I think two watches is the perfect number to travel with. The one on your wrist and one more in a roll. I typically bring one nice piece that I can wear at a restaurant or in more upscale situations and one beater type that I don't worry about wearing in public or if the weather turns inclement. Anything else just becomes a worry that I would leave my roll in the hotel room or something like that. I also worry about going through scanners for every watch except my anti-magnetic Omegas.

Right now Im thinking, Gshock, GW, CWC, and Sinn.  But I know as soon as I get down there Ill miss one of my others.  Its pretty much 99% work on this trip so there isn't going to be swimming or sitting on a beach, just one or two casual dinners with vendors.

I'd probably just wear the Great White.

I'd probably just wear the Great White.

Set up and tear down is like 3 days of heavy manual labor, so I am def wearing the GShock for that.  I may just take the Omega though, I know its going to get the most wear anyway.

Take them all. Which travel case do you take/use? Pouch? Roll?

Great watch...and photo!

I feel like 2-3 watches is the sweet spot for me, but it depends on what kind of trip I'm taking.

One watch just doesn't seem to scratch the "watch nerd" itch, but taking four feels a little reckless because I don't like leaving 3 watches in a hotel room.

3-4, although I don’t have exactly the same models as you I would have a travel buddy, a meeting watch, a casual watch and a backup for one of those depending on itinerary.

That's the mindset I'm in. When I last travelled for work (which admittedly was pre-pandemic) I brought an automatic Seiko and a classic Casio. The Casio was for work, as I needed a stopwatch, plus it was incredibly hot so the small plastic body was perfect. Then I had the Seiko for going out of an evening.

I have to preface this with “I’m crazy,” but on week long trips I’m known to carry a full 8 watch flat case. BUT that’s when the watches are with me nearly all the time. If I had to leave those not worn in a hotel room, (hopefully a safe?) I would probably take 2 in a pouch and 1 on my wrist. It’s hard to choose!

I struggled with this same question the last time I traveled and ended up only taking my SMP GMT. Although I have more travel coming up and will probably take 2-3 watches

I don't like to take an automatic or mechanical watch for travel, I've had issues with TSA refusing to hand-examine one and ruining a very nice watch in the x-ray.

I bought a number of Citizen Eco Drive quartz watches for me to travel with, because TSA can put them in the x-ray and they'll be fine. There are 3 - one is dressy, one is sporty, one is casual. I just grab that watch roll and take it with me when I travel. (Actually the sporty one is titanium and is my daily beater, so taking it would be a no-brainer.)

This seems to be the minority view, but now that I travel out of the country only for pleasure, I only take my beater Timex quartz.  The Indiglo works even after hours in the dark and the last thing I want to do is put my wife at risk by catching the attention of robbers in a foreign city.  If something happens to it I have an excuse to buy another watch.
