Your favourite Chronographs?

Mine has to be the Speedmaster. The Moonwatch, of course, but I also like their Racing models.

I also love the Lorier Gemini too.

What are some of yours?

I've been thinking more lately about the Speedy, which has piqued my interest in Chronographs in general.

As you might suspect, ChronoGuy has a few chronos in the collection.

So to answer your question would be an impossibility.

However, I'll share a small selection of chronos to wet your appetite for chronos further...

I'll start with some modern racing ones...including Speedmasters...

I really regret not picking up one of the Fratello / Nivada racing dials in black ... I might have to get one on the secondary market I think. The Baltic is a nice looking watch too.

Nice collection (as usual).

Yeah CB @AllTheWatches and I each picked one up when they were blowing out the final inventory. That was a stellar deal.

Such a cool chrono, especially once I replaced the strap! I would add Daytona, cliche as it is, still my favorite in the collection. I do need to add an El Primero at some point.

I’m not a big chronograph fan. But I do love my Lunar Pilot.

Speedmaster mine as well. IWC has a red dial chrono that’s stunning and I’m a big fan of the Tag Monaco.

Great collection here!

I love the Lorier Gemini! It's definitely on the short list of watches I'm looking at - alongside the Neptune and Speedy.

How do you find the ST1901 movement?

You raise a good point on value. This is why I’d recommend you look at the now-discontinued 1861 Speedys. It’s a derivative of the original 321 and 861 movements (Omega had to change the caseback inscription for the new 3861 model), and much cheaper. Personally I like the bracelet too, though I’m in the minority there. The Uncle Seiko 1479 pretty well copies the new 3861 bracelet.

Check out my profile for pics.

Absolutely!

I'm really only looking at the previous gen 1861 Speedy's. Hesalite preferably, or maybe the Hesalite sandwich. The $10,000 for a new Speedy at retail is simply out of the question.

Honestly, I'm not really a bracelet guy, so I'm not fussed about the Speedy bracelet at all. This will be on a Colareb leather or Omega Nylon deployant for sure. Even my Seamaster - and I love that bracelet - I've worn it maybe 6 times. I almost always have it on an Omega rubber or Crown & Buckle NATO.

I'm hoping that can work in my favour on the grey market to help keep the cost down. Bracelet I don't care about and the box and goodies I don't need. This one, if I buy it, won't be resold.

Thanks for the kind words John - that's the exact point...I don't think I can choose. Fortunately, I'm blessed to not have to choose at present.

I suppose one could just close their eyes and point and there probably wouldn't be a bad choice in the group. 😉

Definitely no bad choice!

Were both blessed, my friend, to be able to really enjoy watches - of all things in the world - that aren't really that important.

For me, even the pre-loved Speedy's I'm looking at will be a bit of a stretch. But my plan is to sell on (nearly) my whole collection to get that one, then really put some miles on it and love in it. It's more about me refining who I am as an enthusiast over chasing the "aspirational luxury" train.

I just think, would I rather have one too, $5000 watch, and put all the memories in it for the next decade. Or a $500 per year for the next 10? Definitely the former.

Fantastic Bulova!

The Lunar Pilot (the 43mm version) is definitely on my list. It's another one with the history and chops. The "other" moonwatch.

This will do until the speedy comes along

I definitely looked at the Dan Henry's in the evil panda (or Evil Nina in this case)! Love the design and very reminiscent of the Speedy!

I'm checking out a PD Speedy homage running the same mechaquartz movement to "field test" the Speedy as a watch before buying. Do you like the VK63 movement?

Fantastic Lunar Pilot!

This is also definitely on the short list. The movement tech at work here is amazing! How do you like the blue? I'd be very torn between that and the black/white version that looks like the original NASA specs.

black one is more iconic but lacks the textures and layers of the blue one

Thanks.

It's fine. I'm gentle with it, always re- running the chronograph around to near 12 before I reset it. But I've had a number of watches with the ST19 over the years and have have only had one problem - and that was more a manufacturer caused issue (Hemel). I love that it exists - an integrated column wheel chronograph for that $ is pretty amazing.

The very first Swiss watch I ever bought was this Swatch chrono... I think I was 13 at the time. Been obsessed with them ever since. I've been more into three handers lately, but I will always have a few chronos around.

Thanks! I wore that thing until it finally quit running a few years ago. I still have it and just spent the last 15 minutes Googling how to fix one 😂

What was Google's suggestion? "Buy a MoonSwatch" :-) ?
