Instant regret?

Alright. I just wanted to share this because initially I was fascinated by the VH31 sort of highbeat quartz movement. which in my opinion is just perfect for a dress watch because you get the slimness and the not having to set it when you pick it up occasionally and also the 4 ticks per second which looks really nice. So when I found this even with a genuinely blued second hand I thought I had to get it.
Get a VH31 movement which is kinda of rare and cool in the collection.

Cover all my dress watch needs and not even spend that much. amazing.

But then I thought it might be just a tad to generic so I opted for the blue version. and now that it’s arrived the second I opened the package I was underwhelmed not by the quality which is honestly unbelievable for the price but by the look. I don’t know what I thought but this sky blue does not work at all on a dressy kind of watch. it also doesn’t have the blues hand for obvious reasons. so I am really not sure about this one if I should just get the other one too or just try to love it? I still have to get a strap that works for this so maybe then I will change my mind. so if you have any suggestions about straps please let me know. Also did you ever have this? Like loving it first and not liking it when it arrives?

Well…if you had a woman in your life who ‘is trying to love you’, that’s the beginning of a drain-circling relationship. Get the one that was in your thoughts when you ordered it. Don’t try and love the blue one.

Your young and can pull off a bright blue Nato band. Embrace the contrast to your outfits with an all blue watch.

Yeah, it's no longer a dress watch. If that's what you are wanting it to try to become, you're going to be disappointed. If you can view it as a fun casual/every day watch (I'm getting Omega Aquaterra vibes) then I think you can grow to love it. But a blue rubber strap on it if that's the direction you want to go.

Embarassingly often.  If something lasts the first 48hours, it has a shot at sticking around for a long time, but few do...

Are your options basically keep, return, or sell?  Assuming you can't just eat the cost, can you get your $ back out?

That isn't a dress watch. (I don't like the term "dress watch"...) It has the stylings of a 1970's Seiko, which wasn't a dress watch, only rendered as a robin's egg. Order a white silicon strap and make it a fun summer watch to wear at the cabana with shorts and sandals.

If you want the job interview, cousin's bar mitzvah, impress the girl watch, make it a white dial rectangle with a gold case. Seiko makes them and they were practically every watch made until 1953.

I can understand the frustration. I think we've all been at that scenario, where for one reason or another we purchase a watch and realize it's not exactly what we wanted.  I'll think "I don't need another black/white/blue/etc.. dial" so you choose a unique color and then after I'm thinking should have just gone with X dial which I like more.  Or whatever reason watch isn't quite you expected. But sometimes it's a good watch none the less.

In this case, still seems like a good looking watch.  That VH movement does seem interesting.  But I get it, not quite the versatile dress piece you expected.  Definitely doesn't seem like a black tie event colored dial. But still could be a fun watch and still dressy enough for more formal cocktail parties maybe.  Dress it up with darker blue leather, light tan leather strap might work as well.  More casually with blue rubber or even white straps might work.  Could be a fun day time watch with that sky blue.

There are ways to work this into rotation. If you like this one enough might be worth getting the white dial one down the line.

Sometimes one's mind changes after a little exposure, but myself and others aeem to agree that the dial color is weird. If ever one wanted an excuse to start modding with a fairly simple redial (and hand replacement too if so desired), this would be a prime candidate. How to go about picking one that is certain to fit, I'm not so sure but I doubt it's the hardest thing in the world.

yeah I guess my reasoning behind it was I don't really dress up a lot so I chose the color to be more casual.

the watch is about 100€ selling and returning won't be worth it with the shipping involved. I will keep it for now and see if I might gift it to someone else to enjoy:)

UPDATE:

Found this suede leather kind of strap burried in my watch box and I like it much better now. Still thinking about getting some kind of rubber strap for it to make it more casual! thanks for all the comments :)

That looks great!  Delugs has a blue elastic strap that might go perfectly with it too as a casual option.  I also think it would work well on a steel bracelet.

Hm, I think the "colorful dress watch craze" of late is missing a crucial point: dress watches hail from a time of more rigid dress codes and their overall layout and restraint allure still echo that. So of course (!) squirting a funky color on the dial will most likely clash and create a disconnect. The Rolex OPs just barely get away with it because of their inherent sportiness, GS ground their colorful dials with artisanal excellence and very considered color coordination etc. But more often than not, it's bound to fail.

My humble suggestion: Bite the bullet and go for the cream dial version of the Escapement Time. Put mine on dark brown ostrich and, oh boy, does it look gorgeous.

I seriously doubt that you will ever be genuinely happy with the blue dial version :-) I had one with a yellow dial that I gave away.

Why not get the off-white one and add a nice strap to that, they are after all dirt cheap. Here's a picture of mine.
