To upgrade or not to upgrade

I'm celebrating my 5th year of ownership for my Tudor Prince. It's my first ever Swiss watch that I bought from the money I saved being assigned briefly in Riyadh. It's one of my favorite watches due to its sentimentality, but I find myself thinking if I should upgrade to a 5 digit Datejust.

However, I find no advantages upgrading to a 5 digit Datejust since it's basically the same watch, and even more so, they're currently stupidly priced even more than my Aqua Terra which is a fantastic and my favorite watch. A 6 digit Datejust might be the better choice, but the price is too stupid as well.

I already know the objective answer but we're not in this hobby because we're objective lol. Any thoughts watchfam?

If you are thinking about it then you probably want it.. life is too short.. go for it… just a different color.

Life is too short, but being able to afford Datejusts for me will take too long from where they're priced at now 😂

OK, someone needs to say it straight. You have a great watch. As you yourself acknowledge, the upgrade makes no sense. You'd be bloody silly to do it. Save yourself the time and self-flagellation after the fact.

Don't do it.

Pleasure. The grass will always look greener on the other side and it's hard to resist. It's nice to have new things. It's nice to try things we've never tried before. The dopamine hit of a new watch is real.

But it's not always the right option. In your case, that is for certain.

If you do, you will confirm the "poor man's Rolex" gag. Thus, and since it's not my money, I encourage the "upgrade."

Anything worth having, is worth saving for. Not to mention there are some deal still out there on Datejust if you look hard enough.

Probably for the 6 digit Datejusts, upgrade will be felt. But for the 5 digit, I've held a couple and other than a better 36mm size vs my Tudor's 34mm, it's virtually the same.

Yeah I guess I'm going that route and will not rush. Hopefully by that time, Rolex' stupid games will be over as well.

It's like Halflife said...if you're thinking about it.......

Don't overthink it! If you want one, GET ONE! There is no logic to any of it. 😉

Nope, I would stay with a Tudor.

I really want a vintage DJ and hopefully someday I would put it on a wrist, but there's just something crazy cool about those Princes.

Like you've said - it's basically the same watch as a 5-digit DJ, but first - a sentimental value is always more important than a monetary one. And first luxury Swiss watch is a kinda serious milestone for a watch collector. Just like a first watch you've got yourself with your own money, first automatic, first luxury, etc. And here you have a full combo.

Second - it's a great watch. I love them princes with a linen dials and a roman dials. It looks similar to Rolex, but it's not a Rolex and not a homage. It's a bit hipstery way of thinking, but there's some charm in wearing something that is a bit different. A pointless act of subtle rebellion

Fair point. I love some of the rare dials on Princes too, especially the textured ones and the california dial.

Keep the Tudor, it has sentimental value that can't be replaced! (+ The Aqua Terra is better than both- & yes, I am biased!!)

Good luck with your decision

·

I”ll be the devil’s advocate go ahead go for it you only live once! buy it keep it and be happy!😀

If you really want it, can afford it and available, why not?

But if you don't want it, why force it?
