My first "real" watch, given to me by my wife shortly after our marriage in 1988. Even discounting it's sentimental value, I think it's a great watch.

Not available to the general public. Special watch just for members of his F1 team.

BTW, if you're interested in the technology behind the quartz movement, I described it a bit in this comment. The co-axial escapement gets a lot of press, but quartz can be pretty cool as well.

Aesthetically, the modern version is flashier than the original (applied indices, engraved wave pattern, etc.) Modern bracelet has micro-adjustments in the clasp but, like the watch itself, is noticeably heavier. Coaxial movement will require regular service (currently $750, I think, from Omega) while quartz will mostly do just fine with nothing more than periodic battery replacement (assuming you're not actually diving with it).

It took me far too long (and too many misses) to find a strap that I thought complemented it well, but I think I've got a winner now.

The original wave dial: Omega Seamaster 300 Professional

Plenty of Omega De Ville Prestige models from the 1990s and later that are quite thin.
