Tool watch trilogy

A newly acquired chronograph has, I think, fully satisfied my tool watch longings. I had been considering a modern watch (BB58) to celebrate a recent life event. But, as much as I love that watch, even its relatively small size (by modern standards) is too much for me. I guess I'm just fundamentally a vintage guy. Thus the Delbana instead. And it does complete the land, sea, and air trilogy.

  1. Delbana chronograph circa 1950s. (Dial and hands almost certainly not original.)
  2. Camy skindiver circa late 1960s.
  3. Omega pilots watch delivered to British Ministry of War in 1943 for the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm (HS↑8 issue).

Seeing all three together highlights (to me) the extraordinary legibility of the Omega. I guess when it really is a matter of life and death, the cream rises to the top.

Although I usually wear an Apple Watch when outside of the house (in lieu of taking my iPhone everywhere), I do wear these when I'm at home which, since that's also where I work, happens to be much of the time. I can't deny the functionality of a smart watch, but glancing at my wrist to spot one of these can provide a small dose of pleasure during the workday.

Nice trio. Once you go vintage it’s hard to go back to modern. Vintage pieces have soul that a new watch in a store window can’t replicate.
