๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ Calling all watch enthusiasts! ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ

Hey there, fellow timepiece aficionados! ๐ŸŒŸ

I'm thrilled to dive into the vibrant world of watches alongside this amazing community. As a newbie here, I'm eager to tap into the wealth of knowledge and experience that you all bring to the table.

So, here's the scoop: I've been on the hunt for my next watch for a while now, and I could really use your help in making the perfect choice. I'm on the lookout for a versatile diver that can keep up with my lifestyle โ€“ whether it's chasing after my little bundle of energy, enjoying some beach time, or just tackling the day-to-day grind.

I've got a soft spot for timepieces in the 36-42mm range, with a preference for sleek designs that won't weigh me down. While my collection already boasts some stellar divers like the Seiko SKX007, Steinhart Ocean and the Unimatic Modello Quattro, I'm on the hunt for that one special watch that'll truly stand the test of time and earn its spot as a keeper.

Enter my shortlist of contenders:

- Seiko Turtle Save the Ocean

- Squale 1521 Militaire Mesh

- Lorier Neptune Series IV No Date

- Doxa Sub 300T

Each one brings its own unique flair to the table, and I'm torn between them.

Have any of you had the pleasure of owning and comparing two or more of these beauties?

I'd love to hear your firsthand experiences, insights, and recommendations. But hey, don't hold back โ€“ whether you're a seasoned collector or just starting out, your thoughts and opinions are invaluable to me.

I love the Squale on that bracelet but can't make a recommendation other than based on looks. Hopefully you find the answer your looking for. All great pieces though!

ยท

I have the exact same Seiko in the picture. I think its Turtle, not Tuna btw ;) While itโ€™s a great piece, I find it to be a bit heavy for everyday grind. It is simply a lot of metal bit for the case itself. I suppose if you are diving then the weight may not really matter but it feels too much especially with the 22mm bracelet if you opt to. I use a NATO to balance out but still the heaviest piece in my collection. .

lorier belongs in every collection, doxa is a great old school diver

You are right. This is a turtle. Will edit my post. Good catch. Great insights

Iโ€™d go for the squale

Hello, Sandro! Welcome to WC.

That Doxa is sweet. Just sayinโ€™. No bias here! ๐Ÿ˜

ยท

Good watches!

ยท

Lorier is prob going to be the most versatile if you want an all scenario watch.

ยท

Would recommend a Certina DS Diver in 38mm any time. Just chose your color!

ยท

Turtle or 300T both are modern versions of classics. This said - I am bias.

Thatโ€™s a good option. Iโ€™d take it a step further and suggest the ti version to fit the request a bit better.

ยท

My vote goes to Doxa between the options

ยท

The Seiko offers most value of those watches

This is a hard one. I love every single one and was considering each od them at one point too ๐Ÿ˜…. I don't have experience with Squale and Lorier, but I do own the Turtle. What to say, it's like a Toyota, unkillable. I love mine, it was my first serious timepiece. It really is in the sweet zone and it wears perfectly, incredibly comfortable on the wrist. The mechanism is your classical reliable 4R36, 41 hours of juice. The strap is very nice and I especially like the metal buckle and finished strap holder (the little part that keeps the rest of the strap in place, preventing it from flopping around). They do like scratches so watch out. Dial has a gorgeous texture to it and if you're keen you might have spotted the little manta rays in the bottom left corner. The bezel is nice and crispy (I believe it is 120 clicks). My one is plauged with a slight dial offset. So the top indizie and bezzel arrow align, but 6 o'clock indizie is shifted to the side. Overall, it's an amasing model and a more than worthy wrist companion!

Regarding Doxa, I have only tried the C graph II on wrist so I can't speak about the Sub. But my advice on the Doxa, I suggest definetly seeing it IRL because to me it was a completley different impression regarding size...

Merry hunting!

Thanks for sharing your insights! So, you would say the Turtle can be serve a full day every day if needed?

Although 'sleek' isn't the first thing that comes to mind, I have to vote for the Doxa Sub 300T. It sits down nicely on the wrist, and is a joy to wear. This is thanks to the sleek midcase that breaks up the overall heft of the watch. The case shape, bezel, beads of rice, and fun dial colors are all distinctly Doxa and manage to come together and make it an iconic diver. I am however slightly biased.

I did notice a previous comment about the Sub 300 dial being a bit on the small size in comparison to the overall watch. I feel like that is due to the domed sapphire, which gives it a more vintage look. I think the flat sapphire of the 300T helps the dial look more proportionate to the rest of the watch and a bit more modern. Plus it brings the overall hight down a bit, which in my opinion also helps with wear ability. Hope my two cents helps. Good luck with your choice, you've put forward some great options.

The Doxa is a phenomenon. Although it is not beautiful in my sense, it is so fascinating. I could see myself playing on the beach, fishing and having a barbecue with my family with this watch on my wrist.

What is your experience with this watch? Do you wear it regularly? Is it versatile for your daily life with the exception of your profession? Would be keen to learn from your first-hand experience!

My King Turtle in green is an awesome watch und feels of good quality.

One thing I can complain about is the original steel bracelet. The divers extension digs into my wrist and is very uncomfortable. So I wear it on a NATO which is completely fine.

Also the magnifier on the crystal is off and does not line up with the day date window.

Image

The Squale specially on the mesh bracelet feels great and I would call it more elegant than the Turtle.

The bezel insert in steel looks more appealing to me but can get scratched easily (see the picture in the black nato)

Who wins in a comparison?

Case: Squale

Bezel Action: Squale

Bezel Insert: Turtle (King Turtle has ceramic)

Dial: Turtle

Bracelet: Squale

Movement: Squale

Lume: Turtle

Versatility: Squale

Crystal: Squale

Wow, great watches! I really like the look of the Squale. Do you think the Squale is versatile and can be worn for all the fun family moments or is it "too dressy"?

As I said in a previous comment, I don't really care about scratches as I collect memories. However, I would rather have a watch that gives me a good feeling when I go swimming or play football with my son and enjoy the moment rather than protecting the watch, if you know what I mean?

I donโ€™t think the Squale is dressy. But versatile for sure

ยท

I would say the Turtle. Such a great case. I regret selling mine and will definately look for another in the future. I only sold it when I got the SMP!

Doxa, but I really like the 300 over the 300T (COSC + domed crystal)

Nice combination - is this a real compass?

Yup.

It's a button compass from Prometheus Design Werx.

I use it as a backup, or as an analog general heads up for direction/bearings.

For more accurate work it comes out of the titanium housing.

Apsolutley, if you treat it well. Like a good old Toyota

ยท

Thanks! What to you think is not that versatile from your experience with this beauty? :)

I think you could dress up the Lorier more easily, that's all, the save the ocean has a beautiful dile, the photos don't make it justice, but kinda hard to wear it at a formal setting, this is just my opinion of course.

I picked up the watch in mid January. I bought it gently used at a price I just couldn't pass up. Since then it has become my 3rd most worn watch, behind my Sinn and Hanhart (all three are getting about 16 to 20% of wrist time so far this year). It's perfect for Florida weather, where it's summer most of the year. Great for a quick dip in the pool, trip to the beach, and I don't have to worry about it when the 2:30pm thunderstorm pops up out of nowhere. I am enjoying putting my scuffs and little swirlys on the high polished parts of the watch. The watch looks even better with a little visible wear and tear on it. I work in banking and it has made several trips into the office with me as well. Very capable desk diver, able to handle hours submerged in excel sheets. It looks great on all kinds of straps (NATO, rubber and leather). Bezel is a super crisp 120 clicks with zero play in it, and comes in handy when BBQ'ing by the pool. Really the only thing it's missing is a built in bottle opener for my beer. Accuracy wise, my watch is running around +6/secs a day. It might not have a COSC certificate, but it's pretty dam good and it really helps with the cost vs the Sub 300. In all, if you like the more vintage vibes and the COSC movement and are ok with paying up for that, have at it. In my opinion, a used 300T is an absolute steal. The history of the watch, the build quality, the uniqueness for a bit over $1000usd (depending on condition) is tough to beat in this current craze of brands hiking prices multiple times a year. It is worth it just for the experience of trying one out. If you go the used route you won't lose your shirt trying to resell it if it doesn't work out for you, but I think you won't have to worry about that.

You should be hired by Doxa! :) Thank you. I really need to have it in my hands!

I wouldn't go for the Lorier for the simple reason that the crystal won't stand up to the abuse your little bundle of joy will put it through. If you can get hold of one a glycine combat sub 39 is a great option or a Maen Hudson

Thanks, I didn't know that!

I like the style of the Maen, but I have never seen it in real life and for some reason I want to hold it first. Do you have one and what is your experience with it?

I like Glycine, especially the Airman. I don't like the numerals on the dial and I think the date window on the Combat looks a bit squashed, although it would tick a lot of the boxes for my next purchase.

I haven't had a Maen but I've only heard good things about them, that picture is quartz but they do it in automatic.

Thank you for your insights and recommendations!

I've probably narrowed it down to two, although I haven't made the final decision yet. The next step is to get my hands on the watches and see them in person.
