My Basic B*tches

Hey guys, just a couple of oldies in my collection. Actually my first 'serious' watches when I started collecting in the late 90s. The Speedy I got in '98. I couldn"t afford a new one at the time so I 'settled' for vintage one from '68 with a 321 cal that I got on eBay when it started for real cheap. I don't think vintage watches were really a thing back then. The non date sub I bought new in '99 working abroad in Australia. Truth be told I wanted the date version but they shop didn't have any. So again I settled for the non date version because I thought it looked nicer than I expected in person, especially on my wrist.

Anyway, I get why these are considered boring by today's standards in watch collecting, but these will always have a special place in my heart.

Cheers,

Rob

"Boring" (and I'm only using that term for continuity from your post) only because the community has taken them for granted. Imagine a world where these watches never existed and some microbrand released them; the internet would shut down.

Beautiful watches👌

·

I see nothing boring about them.

·

Two beautiful pieces 🍻

·

Thanks! Yeah, that's one of the downsides to having older pieces , finding people to service them without completely destroying their value

Beautiful watches👌

The community is more informed now than ever so I get it, but I got no regrets

Boring today perhaps as the watch world has diversified its designs; but they are classics for a reason. They (along with a few others) carried us into the modern Era and that's pretty cool.

Your examples have matured nicely, I'm envious

·

I don’t think it gets better than this 😍.

The king and queen of watches.

·

Preceramic Sub and 321 Speedy boring? I'll take it any day😀

·

Well played. I would need some others to play with

·

Nothing else’s needed 👏👏👏

·

That Omega is the boll*cks

·

Nothing boring with classic style. I love the no date, and is the same Sub I had, 14060M. My current Pelagos 39mm is no date which I prefer. Nice collection!

·

This is my perfect Duo. 😍

·

They are only considered boring because they are classic and have been copied so many times. I'm waiting on the Sub from my AD. It's a dream watch for me.

·

Both are anything but boring, they're stunning!

·

that speedy is gorgeous and the story is almost unbelievable considering what happens on ebay now 🤣

·

Thanks guys. Just adding a couple of wristies...

Looking back, I definitely got lucky. Probably one of my first big purchases online.

Nice! Mine is just before the M. Only says 'Swiss' on the dial

·

Boring! You mean iconic. IMHO - these are probably w of the most beautiful. Iconic watches. Pls don’t trade them or something even if you get bored with them. Just store them away for a season or so and bring them back to life and they’ll still be awesome.

·

I love that you stumbled into the best versions of both watched! The universe was on your side 😉

·

If that’s all you can ever collect, I can say for sure you are a lucky person

Ha ha yeah... I really did NOT know what I was doing then, but I will say this: those watches spoke to me as soon as I tried them on and I knew right away they were keepers even though they weren't my first choices. I still remember the Rolex sales lady saying "You don't want to wait for the sub date? It's better. You really want this one?".

Grails!

I don’t think I’ve ever just seen a pair of them side by side. The contrast between the two of them, from dial, bezel, case, crown and bracelet, if anything elevates both wonderfully!

·

Man, they're stunning 🤩

·

End game duo for most ppl really great watch!👍👍

That is so argumentative, date sub being better, I personally despise that cyclops eye (date viewer) so I would buy the Sea Dweller rather than a date sub. Personal preference.

·

I think you have two of the MOST ICONIC watches of all time. If I were to have a two-watch collection, that would be it!

·

Great classic pieces 👌🏻

Love the vintage Speedy 🚀
