What was your FIRST watch?

The year: 1981.

The place: Albuquerque, NM.

It was summer break from school and things were poppin. My Huffy bike with the banana seat was on the porch, my pal Kevin and I had plans to build a Bat Cave in his garage, and Kool Aid was running a watch promotion.

Seeing as how I went through about a pitcher of green Kool Air a day, it only took me a month or so to save up enough proof of purchase coupons to get the Kool Aid watch.

I wore that thing till the strap broke.

It was my first watch and I recently saw one on eBay and pulled the trigger.

It’s definitely worth the $18 in nostalgia alone.

I feel you! I had the Huffy, wanted the Schwinn. Congratulations on conjuring up some nostalgia.

Wow, that’s an awesome watch. But how does it tell time?

Thanks!

My friend Anthony got a Diamondback BMX bike and then that’s all I wanted.

Eventually got one. Haha

The things we remember.

Thanks

I’m pretty sure it needs a new battery. Just got it in the mail yesterday.

The one you got is rad! Love it. Nice work.

Damn cool! Those were the days, right? Hot, dry, dusty and full of freedom! My bike at the time was my 1981 silver Schwinn Mag Scrambler with red mags.

·

My first watch gifted to me on my 10th birthday, sadly long gone. Probably for the best, I seriously doubt l’m cool enough rock this 34 years later 😂

Ha that looks like a fun watch. Did it have digital hands?

My first "watch" was this fake digital party favor watch with a lenticular screen that showed different numbers, similar to this one:

Sad times lol but hey at 3 years old I loved it.

My first actual watch was a digital watch with a cartoon cat on the dial that when you pushed one of the buttons its tail would light up. I have no idea who made it and haven't seen it online since.

But one watch I do remember having was this little bad boy:

A classic! That bike would be worth a lot now.

Those are great! That transformer is fire.

I believe the Kool Aid watch needs a battery. Just got it yesterday.

For sure. It’s crazy how much a kid can overlook what he has. I often think of that bike. Damn.

·

I had a manual wind Boy Scouts watch. Even though I was a cubscout at the time. From my grandmother. I often think about trying to hunt one down. Great post

·

I believe my first watch was a Casio G-Shock. Not sure the reference but I think this is it.

My first watch I bought intentionally to collect was my Seiko SRPD73. I miss that watch...

That takes me back! I had a huffy thunder road! I still remember the commercials for it.

Two I recall, circa mid to early 80's, a Casio runner's watch with those orange timer buttons on the front. Or a gray dialed quartz branded Swatch from the Swatch store in the mall.

·

While we're talking about bikes, this is what I roamed the neighborhood on in the late 80s, out with my friends from dawn to dusk.

1983ish. My first watch still have it in a storage box. Need to dig it out!

Nice ride. I upgraded to a BMX Diamondback after the Huffy. 💪🏼

Me and my sister had collected all four of these watches back in 1997. Burger King ran a promotional tie-in with The Lost World movie. My favorite is the "techno time" that had a silver, faux-metal lid that would pop open with a spring when you wanted to read the time.

Image

That’s a cool set!

Great watch. Can’t wait to see it in action. Albuquerque native as well. I had a Diamond Back but my friend had a mongoose that I was really jealous of. Purple with a white seat and white pegs. Anyway, my first watch was the Marty McFly

Image

Unfortunately, I do not have this watch anymore. What I do have is my second watch. Swatch Nautilus.

Image

That Mongoose was huge back in the day. So many cool places to ride on the mesa!

·

I have a few novelty watches in my collection, that I can't justify but love anyway (the batteries are more expensive than the watches😆). They'll make an appearance here some day, when I can muster the nerve!

I love that! There’s value to me in the emotion it evokes. Makes me smile when I see the watch

Haha. Huffy got a bad rap. It was a great kids bike!

Cool watch!

I just found one of these at a thrift store the other day! I bought it for 5$. Its the velociraptor holographic eye ball model. (Far left in this picture) immediately took me back to when I was a kid. Currently trying to find a new battery for it.
