From dream to nightmare

Recently I celebrated a round birthday and it took me a few months to find the perfect gift for myself. The decision was made to buy a Vulcain Nautique, which I ordered in January.

It took endless 6 weeks to arrive from Switzerland.

It arrived the past Monday and I was than happy. A great looking watch with the perfect size and all I was looking for. In addition to the appearance, the movement also made the difference. An ETA 2824 with 28.800 bpm. Something I didn’t have in my collection yet.

So a swiss watch with a swiss movement directly from Switzerland. A dream comes true.

Well… it only lasted on day. After wearing it a whole day I put it down at night and the surprise hit me the next morning. It stopped after only 4 hours. Maybe I didn’t move it enough was my first thought. So I set the time, put it back an and enjoyed my day.

In the late afternoon I went swimming with my son, and exchanged it to a Casio. After coming back home, the first thing was to change watches again. And guess what: during the 3 hours I was gone, it stopped again. Now is was suspicious. On the brands website was the hint to turn the crown 12-15 times to fully wind it up.

I tried that, put it aside and waited. But I didn’t have to wait long. 2 and a half hours later I quit again. Doesn’t sound right for a 38h power reserve, does it?

So i contacted the retailer and got the answer: well it was laying in the safe for 2 weeks. Maybe it needs another turn? Okay… so I contacted Vulcain and didn’t get in answer yet. 3 days might be to short for answering a customer request but maybe next week. I’ll keep you updated how it goes and if the nightmare ends someday.

Good luck. While the winding mechanism is somewhat the weak point of the ETA-2824, there is no way this should have happened. I hope the warranty claim works out.

Sry mate, I have numerous Sellitas (basically ETA 2824 clones) and pretty sure my Certina had a 2824 variant. This definitely does not sound like it’s winding up properly.

All the best 🤞

That’s a shame.. it’s a aesthetically a stunning piece but it’s definitely not winding correctly.. good luck getting it sorted. 👍

Gorgeous! I want a vulcain so bad! Also an Enicar would be awesome!

That’s a primo watch. It’s just terrible that your experience was ruined by what sounds like a bum movement.

I’d be pretty firm about getting a completely new watch, and fast!

Best of luck!

You DID choose a superb watch!

Love those hour markers. Remind me of the patina on my wife’s Tag Heuer F1, which I totally love.

And the lume on them is green. It hit‘s the 60s style in every way.

A new watch would be cool, but i guess they‘ll just change the movement.

Thanks! The warranty should not be a problem. But we‘ll see if i can get in touch with them. That‘s currently the most annoying part.

And it looks even better in real live than in the pictures.

I also have certina with the „modern“ version and zero problems with. But i guess there is a difference in QC between a swatch group member and a microbrand.

Well, that really amounts to a new watch save that any cooties on the watch are comfortably you own! 🥸

Hope it gets sorted out soon, my friend. Congrats and enjoy!

Bought at retail- you’ll be all good for warranty or replace 👍

I did same with a 6R35 Seiko, now within COSC 🙂
