Growing quartz appreciation

Recently I noticed that I am drawn to quartz movement watches. Starting with affordable pieces, some quartz movement snuck into my collection. It isn't only the usual grab'n'go appeal, somehow I am starting to appreciate quartz movements for what they are. I even think about buying a 'nice' watch with a quartz movement - something that wouldn't have crossed my mind a few years ago.

So how is for you? Are you firmly 'only mechanical', cheap quartz only or do you appreciate even higher end quartz watches?

I like watches.

Might consider getting a solar watch, putting them in the sun is like winding them up.

Must admit when I got into this game it was only about mechs, high horology,a little man bent over a desk in the Swiss alps putting together a peice of exquisiteness by candle light (reality a robot in the far east). And quartz was for the roughest of the rough, high emf, high vibrations and if it got obliterated well it's only £20, and personally that's what I use them for, when I know they are going to get destroyed, battered ,blitzed and I don't want to make the little man/robot cry(or me). And then you see these crazy kids and it's 💖

Yep I'm a deluded mechy, but put a leccy in the right watch and I'm there, sod the sweep give me the TICK.

My seamaster quartz says Hi!

I have a definite preference for mechanical watches, but can appreciate quartz movements as well, especially those that offer something special (such as the Mondain Stop2Go that @roberto mentioned). I'm just as concerned with other aspects of a watch, such as the aesthetic appeal, the way that it wears (size/shape), the quality of construction, finishing, etc.

My most recent quartz watch is an Omega Speedmaster X-33 Skywalker. That watch features several timers, and when I purchased the watch I set one of the Phase Elapsed timers so that I could monitor the watch for long term accuracy. That PE1 timer shows that it has been over 103 days since I purchased the watch, and in that time it has gained only 1 second, which I find to be extremely impressive. Here's a photo of the watch comparing the time to my atomic time app.

Definitely love a good quartz movement and a good quartz watch I'd definitely a possibility in the collection at some point , probably a GS maybe an Omega.

But yeah I love mechanical and quartz.

Yes, there are definitely quartz watches in my collection. Most of my acquisitions on the past 10 years have been mechanical.

A few of my favorites. The first two I’ve gotten in the past three years.

GS GMT - when I need to know it’s grab and go accurate. Great travel watch for business trips.

Tissot perpetual calendar. I think perpetual calendars are interesting, love all of the dials, but not frequently resetting the time. So, quartz it is.

One old, but comfortable and reliable entry, a Skagen. When I’m feeling the ‘90’s:

I don’t mind quartz as much as most do. I have my mechanicals, yes but I’m also a GShock guy so who am I to say anything about quartz?

·

completely satisfied with my Alpina Alpinist GMT quartz movement. Adorned with a “Stand with Ukraine” NATO strap, this watch stands out and I’ve had plenty of compliments. I rotate this with Citizen eco-drive movements and Panerai mechanical pieces. Love them all.

I like quartz watches, but I'm not sure I'd buy a luxury quartz watch. If I'm going to spend thousands on a watch, I want it to be a mechanical wonder, rather than an electric appliance.

Sub $2K CAD, a cool quartz watch is just as interesting as a mechanical to me.

I have been replacing Chinese quartz movements with Swiss Ronda 50x series movements lately. Cheap way to get a nice watch with a $50.00 price tag.

·

I own a mix of mechanical and quartz watches. I enjoy each of them for different reasons as each have unique strengths. For example, I enjoy wearing a quartz chr more because I get a great complication in a slimmer watch at less weight. And I’ll definitely own a Grand Seiko at some point.

I have never really bonded with quartz watches until i got my Seiko Tuna. (S23633j1)

It’s the only quartz that has made it in to my rotasjon and i love it!
